Hey Sowhatwhocaresyo, will you be updating the Friday the 13th covers for the upcoming Scream Factory box set by any chance? Just curious to know. I really like how you do the Death Wish films. Having the different incarnations of Charles Bronson to represent the specific movie on the spines is a very nice touch. If you do decide to update the Friday the 13th covers, it'd be cool if you add Jason's head to represent the specific movie it appeared in for each one. Just an idea.

I think it's great what's going on here with you! I am from Germany and unfortunately there is no such thing here ... actually I can not do as much with the English covers as if they were in German. but still i find it awesome and like to collect it. I also do my own covers in German and that's really fun

Hmm, I hadn't thought about updating the set but I could for sure if there's enough interest for it. The spines in the set form the image of Jason so adding the Jason heads to each spine would probably clash with the image. BTW I'm pumped for that new F13th set from Scream. I jumped on that order day 1

I ****ed up and bought a copy of Trainspotting with the French title on the spine. Anyone have a good cover for that one?

Also, curious if anyone has ever tried/had any luck with Walgreens printing covers for you? I’ve had them print other copyrighted stuff before, but never anything as obvious as a BD cover.

Latest project. Since I sort my movie collection by boutique label, I decided to get some shelf dividers directly from Vinegar Syndrome and make my own label logo stickers. Printed the template on glossy vinyl sticker paper. Turned out pretty damn cool I also printed a sheet just to use them as stickers cause I'm sofa king cool like that!

looks extremely beautiful on your shelf. are these 14mm sleeves? do you like the 14 mm better than the 11 mm?

Thanks Frank. I'd say I prefer the clear 11mm cases but Arrow uses 14mm. I like both but those larger cases take up more precious shelving real estate

I've been getting a lot of messages requesting or demanding my artwork and it's gotten to a point I feel I need to address it.

I stopped sharing my designs on this board a long time ago due to multiple users stealing my work and attempting to pass it off as their own, some going as far as using my personal logo and slapping it on their work.

This was not only frustrating, but it sapped the enjoyment out of the process for me. I went from spending hours putting together these covers and sharing them for free because I enjoyed it and it was fun for me, to having to find some sort of reasonable solution to sharing my work, but also being valued for my time and not stolen from.

That led to me charging for my work, which understandably turned off many people and thus furthered the stress that was taking over what was once fun.

I've since had people demand my work for free, I've had people send me a list of specific demands, no art or sources to work with and then proceed to tell me I was trying to rip them off for asking $4/hr for my work on their request. I fully understand that $40 for a custom Blu-ray cover may seem steep, but consider the fact that I spent 10 hours of my life painstakingly creating it to your requested specifications. You could have easily stuck with the mass-produced cover, but you requested something be custom-made for you.

Custom-work is not a standard free service in any field I'm aware of and months and months of this sort of behavior has ruined it for me. I'm done trying to please people who have no respect for my time and effort. Please do not send me any more requests or demands for my work for free, I will no longer be responding to them.

My apologies to anyone who was honest and legitimately just enjoyed the work, it was really fun while it lasted.

I'm very sorry to hear this is such a common thing, and that it's impacted you to the point of quitting. All I can say is "Don't give the knobhead the satisfaction!"

I too was recently called out in public on another forum for having the nerve to actually ask for payment for my services. I replied via PM that I was deeply hurt and angered by this and that he would no longer be getting any covers from me. The user is also a member here on the Blu-ray-forum, but he has since apologised, so I am only bringing it up here to highlight the commonality of the issue, not to dredge anything up. Here's the first and second public posts he made:

I asked Fritz (Nissen) Nilsen if he would make a cover for Criterion's The Great Escape with the Poster artwork and he messaged me back on Bluray.com $20.00 for the cover and you have your choice of artwork ! ?? $20.00 ? I'm Shocked ! No Way ! Someone else will eventually make one I want to print.

"I did not know about you charging for covers. I thought covers were all FREE. I have been printing covers for years. No one ever asked me for any $$"

Here is my reply to him, sent via PM at the time. I have edited out the name of the individual:

"I know, <name>. I've heard it all before. People are taking requests for covers and doing them for free for people left, right and centre. Just ask (politely) in the custom cover thread here on the BDF and I'm sure you'll get many takers. I am not one of them, and I'll try to explain why. You see, I don't appreciate being thought of as greedy, and it actually matters to me what you think of me.

This is a hobby I love too, just like you. The hours spent making covers for personal projects is a big part of my life. BUT, I stopped doing freebies years ago. If I am to sit down and devote 2-3 hours of my time making a cover for someone else (which is how much time it would take me to do what you requested), then it's not a hobby, it's work, and I ask for compensation. Whether you feel that is justified or not is not the point.

I don't need the money, but my spare time is valuable to me, and doing favours for people again and again and again over the years wears you out. So I started taking payment for my services, and you know what, I had more orders than I could ever fulfill. People found my work worth paying $15, $20, $40 for. You say you "would Never ask,or charge a person for Money just for a Bluray cover." Have you ever made a cover? Do you know how much work it entails? It was eating up all of my time, several hours a day after work, many weekends, in between family time and everything else life contains. So I had to stop, to not take commissions any more. Just do personal projects, make this a hobby again, not work. I don't take commissions any more, but on occasion I will still offer to help people out, and believe it or not, my offer to you was intended as a kind gesture instead of just brushing you off.

So, branding me as a money-grabbing ogre in public seemed extremely uncalled for, and terribly rude. I try to see other people's point of view, but the sheer umbrage you seemed to take from my offer came as a complete surprise. Like I said, I've met many people who didn't want to pay for a cover, but none of them have lashed out like you did. And most importantly IN PUBLIC!

Here's how I see it, If you go over to a guy you don't know and say to him "Could you come over to my place and paint my fence for 2-3 hours?" Would you be surprised if he wanted something in return? I just don't understand the way you feel entitled to having me doing work for you for free. Yes, there are people who will do this for you for free, and you've never met anyone who wouldn't before, but why should it be so surprising, so "shocking", that some people won't? I just don't get it.

I'm obviously hurt and offended by your actions, and can't claim to have taken the high road when I cut you off for life. I admit, I am ruled by my base emotions of anger and revenge. It's not pretty, but when I feel wronged I push back. At least I have the courtesy to do it in private.

Does anyone on here have an all-white transparent "Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment" castle logo I can use? It's for a project of mine. I'm trying to edit and print Phildesfr's Star Wars covers onto Criterion cases and for Rogue One and The Mandalorian, I'd like the WDSHE castle logo to line up with the 20th Century Fox logos on EPs 1-6. Sorry if it’s frowned upon asking for a custom DVD cover here...but does anyone have scans of the Walt Disney Treasures line? I lost my cases and covers due to a flood a year ago and have been rebuying cases and artwork to fill everything, and I haven’t had great luck finding the original scans for these at the normal sites for custom artwork or cover scans. Just thought I would ask! Thanks!!
