Vinegar Syndrome's 4K release of the epic jungle adventure Congo will get a standard keepcase release in a few weeks. Another VS disc, another custom cover. In this case two. I actually like the cover on the previous studio Blu-ray so no reason not to put it on the 4k. I also like something closer to one of the theatrical posters...

Lastly, Lionsgate is releasing a new steelboook for The Last Witch Hunter in January. I really like the art of the steel (see what I did there), but I have the current UHD and the discs in the steel are the same. I can fix that.

Default Pale Rider custom UHD 4K cover by Nissen

In anticipation of the upcoming 4K UHD release of Pale Rider, I have prepared two inserts for it. Obviously, the specs and UPC are placeholders, so I won't be sharing these until they're finalized.
Artwork by C. Michael Dudash and David Grove.

Absolutely stunning covers (but that's always the case with every single one of your creations).

There was a mediabook for the previous remastered Blu-ray of North By Northwest that became my favorite art for this film. I decided to adapt it to the recent 4K UHD release.

BTW, I have not uploaded any of these recent covers to Uncovered yet. I'll get to that in a little while.

This is an itch I haven't been able to scratch for a while. I love the art on the 4 disc 4K CE of Avatar but I hate the packaging. Prying a disc out is just ridiculous. Whatever genius thought that up doesn't collect discs. The problem is I couldn't find that key art anywhere.

No matter. I remembered I had a scanner.

Then I made this one because...well...just because.

So, you all know Willow recently got a very nice 4K release. However, Disney, in their infinite stupidity, released only a steelbook in the US AND priced it at $66 (list). No extra swag, just a 4K disc and a Blu-ray. On the other hand, the UK release was a regular keepcase at a more reasonable $26 US (plus shipping).

Now, I, like more than a few others, like the art on the steel, but not enough to spend double what it's worth. Also, the art on the UK keepcase is also pretty nice. If this was done correctly, we would have gotten both the steel (limited of course) and a regular keepcase. That gives us barbarians in the colonies a choice. But nooooo.

Suck it, Disney...

Okay, two more for the pile.

I finished that Casablanca cover with a modified scan of the back. I know, that's a cheap way to make a cover, but to me, the back is for info and the front is for art. That's how I usually roll.

For this next one, my copy of The Searchers showed up today and I plan to sit down for a "Duke double" with this and the 4K of Rio Bravo. I pulled out my copy of Rio Bravo and took one look at the cover and thought, "uh, no". I did a cover for the Blu-ray disc back in the day and decided to make another run at that poster art for this one...

I recalled I made a cover for the 4K release of Blade Runner special edition that i never used for some reason now lost to the passage of time. I still had most of my covers in a file that I "found" recently so I was able to recover that. I made a few tweaks to that cover for printing because that has become a thing for me now (check the second image in this post).

So...what makes a sort-of old retired dude take back up a hobby that he left years before? Boredom? Not really. I have lots of things that need doing. Covers is actually taking time that could be better spent on other things. But, such is my outlook on life these days.

With some recent remodeling in my converted home office, I found myself with some unused (so far) space on one of my shelf units. Queue the light bulb...

Discs that are on display rotate based on my mood .

Well Sir, your custom artistry hasn’t gone unnoticed since your hiatus and with you finding the time to create and share with this forum is a pleasure to see once again. So please keep’em coming when time allows so the bastardized studio covers or Steelbook only releases can have the original key art to print out and display in our collections!

Thanks for that. Life has thrown me some fairly serious curves in the past couple of years but I have come out the other side. Maybe that's a main reason I'm enjoying this hobby a bit more lately. While I make covers primarily for myself, I do appreciate that others enjoy the effort as well. And hearing it from someone that has been around this block more than a few times feels even better.

Now if I could just talk her into that 100" TV I'd be all set.

So, looking at the cover I did for Blade Runner (see above), I decided to show the sequel next to it. When I pulled out that disc with a cover I did back when it came out, I was not happy with it. Title treatment was way too big ruining the sense of "space" in that image.

I decided to go back to the original key art and start over. I also found a similar poster that showed more of the aircar but moved K (Gosling) too far over to the edge of the image. I worked both posters to come up with something I liked better. This was born...

Unfortunately, once started stopping is not that easy. (Continued below)

I liked what I came up with, but next to the Blade Runner case, they did not "blend" like I wanted. This was next...

While perusing the websites I get photo elements from, I saw some other images I couldn't pass up. This next one was chosen because it added more color to the cover. A good alternate for that sort of thing...

Then I found another one I liked...

Could try blending those two images together to have it look more similar to the Blade Runner cover, with the characters collaged together more on the top then the city on the bottom.
