Only the first two appear to be 1900 in any dimension, and that's still horizontal. Upscaling images like this to BD cover size (about 1700 px tall) will result in serious artifacting.
But a Blu-Ray cover will be smaller than the image at fullscreen on a PC, you shouldn't be able to notice it.

Trekkie, these are wonderful. I appreciate you trying to help, but for these to be useful for covers, Mike would need the full posters in that resolution, not just the cropped portions (though some elements of those could be used). They would have to work in a vertical orientation.

The images you included for Living Daylights, Licence to Kill and Goldfinger are indeed too small to be useful, but the Roger Moore posters are great. Do you have the full posters in that size?

DVDMike is doing awesome work here, and if some of the seams show or the images are a little fuzzy it doesn't belittle the extraordinary effort he's making.

He's using the best resources available at the moment, and I'm sure he appreciates you trying to find even better versions of the posters. It just comes off as a little ungrateful when you make statements like that. I'm sure that's not your intention.

Everyone who posts covers here does so out of the goodness of their hearts and to display their talents to like-minded individuals. They are not here to cater to everyone's artistic whims or preferences.

I myself have (respectfully, I hope) declined to "adjust" my covers for others ("Do you have it in black?"). It's just not why I'm here. If you hire me to do graphic design for a cover for you, then you get to dictate the aesthetic choices, otherwise you may only make polite suggestions.

There's a fine line between constructive feedback and criticism, and sometimes the messages here fall down on the side of the latter. Actually, Trekkie, you at least offer actual images as alternatives, and I commend you for it. Just don't feel that the artist is under any obligation to take your suggestions, and try to read between the lines and know when it's time to stop pressing your case.

I just don't think these covers are very well done Mike. I don't want to start a flamewar like I've accidentally done in the past, but I just wanted to say what I thought. They just don't look professional.

But you can't just silence everything other than 100% positive feedback, that's ridiculous. If he has the right to post his images, I have the right to say what I think of them. I'm not trying to be overly negative, I'm just being frank.
He doesn't have to listen to me, nobody does. That doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion though. I just think the covers are really quite sloppy looking.

Well of course everyone is entitled to an opinion so let me offer mine.

I think dvdmike is dioing a fantastic job and have already decided to switch out the covers that came on my Bond blu-rays with the ones that dvdmike is putting together.

I don't see where I'm advocating 100% positive feedback only, I'm all for CONSTRUCTIVE feedback. So you tell me, is your opinion constructive for DVDMike or not?

To me, constructive feedback entails actually being specific about what you think isn't working, and offering a suggestion as to how it might be improved. You're actually halfway there. How would you eliminate the clutter and clear up the rough edges?

BTW: You really don't have to be frank, that's just a common misconception. Frankness only distances people and doesn't get you closer to a solution. Frankness is overrated, quite frankly

But I think the whole thing doesn't work. The messy back which is totally off balance and has a poor hierarchy, the front looks like a bad cut and paste job and the pattern behind it looks bad.
My advice is to totally scrap this idea. That's constructive because if he does that he can make a better cover. I can see what he was going for but it really doesn't work.

See I don't slate other people's work, and I have seen a lot of stuff in here I hate.

So if the consensus of my work is a page worth of negative crap then I see no option in not posting any more work here.

No please dvdmike, don't!

It's not because that some people think this serie of covers is not the best of your work that you shouldn't post here anymore

Mike,

I personally think that these Bond covers are fantastic. I hope you will continue to work on them.

If however you decide not to post anymore on here, please send the remaining ones to me as a PM.

Thank you.

No one is being negative against you Mike, I only had a problem with the FYEO cover. On another site where I make boxarts, I've had my fair share of criticism, be it constructive or not. I took peoples advice if something looked a bit off in order to improve upon my work.

It's often hard to know how a render will look till you upload it or put it into the finished project, many of my renders look great when I'm editing them...only to look kinda off when posted on the internet. Usually it's just a few jagged edges and a piece that hasn't been erased from the picture.

Cheers!

Why would you be so melodramatic. Somebody said he didn't like your stuff, big deal. Who cares? Either you take it on board and better your work or you don't. Why would you stop posting stuff here just because of me?

Rusty, your comments are hurtful, legitimate or not. You are abusing your right to air your views and I would be just as hurt as DVDMike if it was me. You hurt people and retreat behind your freedom of speech and God-given right to frankness.

Whether you yourself think DVDMike's reaction is overblown or not is immaterial. Come on, what'd you expect him to do? Thank you for your frankness?

There are ways to speak to people, and there's ways not to. There's no "I have the right to say what I think" about it. You DO have that right, but did you ever stop to think if you should? Bad form, Sir.

its not a big deal that someone doesn't like your work, thats the nature of posting on here for thousands to view, you'll never have 100% like your work, thats why they are unique costums, they are the idea of individuals, not the request of others. Just keep on designing dvdmike. Sometimes, honest critisism from people is hard (and I agree people should state likes or dislikes), but it should never hold you back. If you're posting here you need to be ready for both. I once made a cover for The Social Network for a contest, I came in last place and the judges tore me apart and I was totally crushed, yet to this day its my most requested cover. So just keep on building!

Valid points have been stated, I for one may or may not think someone's creation is good or great, but it's a step up from the shit that some of the official covers come out as. These custom cover artists are taking the time and effort to share with us the appreciation for fine one sheet art on a smaller scale that is cool to look at, but preserves the original artisits rendering of such art. Now I am no expert at art but I do appreciate the contributions of the many or the one, (to paraphrase Star Trek) that are offered for "free" I may add, for those of us who don't have the time or means to create it yourself. Everyone is entitled to thier opinions but sometimes airing your dirty laundry is very uncool. Who's to say that if the negetivity goes out of control then all the cover artist pull the plug and we are all ****ed in the end. If you don't like it, fine don't download it. Move on. It's as simple as a click of the mouse......

That's the whole point. Sometimes that might be hurtful. It's never my intent to be hurtful, but if you're hurt them I'm sorry. But unfortunately that's life, not everyone is gonna like what you make. It's better to just take it on board and roll with it. Or ignore it. But not get upset and threaten to leave. Now THAT'S the poor form.

Default Audition blu ray cover

Does anyone in this thread have, can make or know where to locate a Blu Ray Cover for Takashi Miike's Audition? I got the movie, but no cover to provide the movie with. Anything is better than nothing =)

I guess I just don't see what "doesn't work" about them

Seriously, quite a few of us actually really dig these Bond covers and dvdmike is being kind enough to provide links to his covers for anyone to download if they wish. If you don't like something, fine, but if your intent is to just rip someones stuff apart, say its crap, and not offer any solutions then maybe you should just keep your ideas to yourself. At least offer some sort of constructive criticism on it, why it doesn't work and offer a solution to fix it or what you think would work better. If its not your thing, then just leave it alone. Allow those that actually enjoy it to enjoy it.
