I came up with a compromise for those who might want a synoposis. Personally, when I come to print my cover I am going to drop it entirely:

I don't know, I like clint on it. I know something to my eye is throwing off both images of the spine. . . not sure.

I like it ! Can't wait to get it.

The title does not look as off as before.

(is it me or does Clint look more like Connery on that poster ? )

No plans for "Kelly's Heroes" but that's probably just a matter of time.
I can't wait for Heroes.

This was a great idea. Thank you.

I wouldn't go so far as to start from scratch
I like the red and yellow scheme, especially how it's used on the back.
Perhaps you could simplify the front a bit. Maybe just one blood-spatter, off centre, perhaps trailing off the edge or rounding the spine?
The lower left spatter looks like a stickfigure, and is therefore quite distracting. I'd lose him first.

My next advice is one of personal taste. The black spine seems unnecessary. It adds an additional "box" to the cover that it doesn't need. I would span the yellow background from the front over to the spine. It would liven the whole cover up, methinks.

In the end, you're doing this cover for yourself, right? You decide what looks good to you in the end. Keep at it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Really really really really bored

Damnit I just realised the second paragraph isn't finished. I guess I forgot about that a long time ago when I first wrote it for earlier covers and never noticed.

what do you think about using the same 25 anniversary font in the back as well?

I was thinking it would work as a slipcover, on top of the regular one.

About the front. The paper texture and watercolour brush effect is just how I would have done it. Lovely. Was it a conscious decision not to have the "white" border around the image an even width along the top and sides?
One thing, the banner, when viewed along with the skull, makes this look like a biker gang logo. Hells Angels comes to mind. Maybe lose the banner? Then again, it's a hell of a nice graphic so I'd hate to see it go.

Just wondering, is the vertical orientation of the Blu-logo on the spine part of the Lionsgate template, or do you just prefer it that way? Anyway, I think maybe you should move it down a bit so that it's flush with the front border and the "25th Anniversary" text on the back.

And I have to ask, why do you preface some of your later covers with being "really bored"? Are you implying that making covers is boring? Or that this is just something you slapped together? Come on, you put your heart and soul into these things just as much as everyone else. You should be proud of your work. You and I may disagree on many, many things, but you do know your way around a cover.

Oops, yeah the unusually high blu-ray logo is an oversight, I had meant to have it in line with the borders but forgot to do it.
Also I think I got the vertial orientation from Warner Bros style, I guess I just like that the best. Matches the vertical film title, does it not?

Also, I usually get ideas and do more iterations of covers I have already done when I'm bored. It's like the billionth Evil Dead 2 cover I've done, and this was just the latest idea I had since I wasn't doing anything.

And it's more of a 'beat up, old poster' look than a water colour effect, I wasn't really going for that. There's multiple paper textures, one of which I scanned myself for the creases, as well as a hell of a lot of other grunge effects on top of it. It does take a while to get all that done and looking nice but all the work was already done since it's from a poster I'd made a little while ago.

Yes, but the Lionsgate logo is horizontal . I prefer it the other way, but stay true to the Warner and Universal templates when making covers for those studios' films.

One pet peeve about French and German covers is when they put the spine title the "wrong" way. Just can't stand it.

My next project is another that is likely only of use to me. You see I own the 2-disc DVD Collectors Edition for "Battle of Britain" with all of its special features and the bare bones Blu-ray.

I have the two sets sitting together in a 3-disc Blu-ray case and the bare bones Blu-ray cover. Of course the problem is that the cover makes no mention of the DVD special features (obviously). So, I plan to work on a custom cover for that 3-disc set.

I plan on basing the cover on the DVD set with the swirling theatrical poster art on the back. The issue is a matter of readibility since the poster art has a white background that can accomodate text whereas the DVD cover art is much more colorful.

Obviously the credits are currently In Progress:

Yes, quite.

The TT on the spine is obviously squeezed, more than you can get away with anyway. It's sort of a no-no. You'd be better off keeping it on one line.

Actually quite the opposite - the TT on the cover is stretched. But it does look squished on the spine so I like your idea of making it one line

It's a Work in Progress

Okay, Sorry. My mistake. The letters just didn't/don't look right to me. They looked more proportionate on the front. I'm guessing you saw it that way too since you elected to stretch them for the front?

Yes, that's precisely why I stretched them on the front. Strangely though when the custom cover is put in a BD case the TT does not look so squished on the spine at all.

Sticking with what I did for the revised 007 covers I also incorporated the late 1960s United Artists/TransAmerica logo on the back cover

Default Nightmare on Elm Street Collection

As a fan of the Elm Street Series, and not of the cover art, I created a simple case to house all of the (hopefully) inevitable releases.

Let me know what you think!
