When and if Ghostbusters II comes out on Blu-Ray, I will be interested in Commissioning someone to do new artwork as I KNOW in my heart of hearts that the studio will suck at releasing a great cover as they did with the original a few years back.

I knew you'd have a reason, I was just curious about it. I try to spend a lot of time thinking about fonts and typography when I'm doing my covers.

It's a beautiful cover; I love the inlaid repousse designs around the front poster image, which appear to be modeled on the title sequence. Very nice.
Well, you know when they say design is a "language" unto itself, they are talking about those associations and what they trigger in people.
As you pointed out, those associations aren't always universal, so mastering that "language" is the sign of a master designer, which I am not, yet.

I need some help. I'm going to buy a 3disc case and put the 'bourne' trilogy in to conserve space on my shelf. I've found the artwork that I would like to use but its not a good enough quality pic to actually print it out and use. Also, like the previous post, I don't know anything about printing out the right size. Here is a link to a website that has the pic/layout I want to use...
http://www.cwer.ru/node/269517/

Any help would be appreciated.

I've asked this before, but didn't see any quoted reply:

How do I go about printing custom Criterion-sized covers? Undercover XP is great for regular sized BD ones, but Criterions are a little bigger.

I used Windows Photo Viewer, and set to Landscape and all, and although the height was right, the length was a little wider by a few mm.

Any tips would be great.

UndercoverXP allows you to create a new printing job.

I did this myself because they didn't have a Viva Elite 5-disc case on the pre-loaded list of jobs available from the drop-down menu.

You create the new printing job with the dimensions you need and then save it using a name you will remember (mine is called Viva Elite 5 Disc). This is a crucial step because the next time you need to print one that size you just click on the saved job in the drop-down menu.

By the way, if anyone needs the settings of the Viva Elite 5-disc (which also works for the 6-disc and 4-disc) shoot me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll send you a screencap of the settings.

Hope that helps

I love all the covers that people take the time to design here. They often put the studios to shame.

I've always wanted to create covers that have a simple spine with the title, studio logo, and the year of the film's cinematic debut on the spine. Every film would have these details in the same place (although the title font would be individual to the film) and they'd be in the same kind of case (preferably a criterion style case, but that's costly).

Then I could shelve chronologically:

The shelves would show the evolution of cinema. You could see trends like the arrival of the summer blockbusters.

When you get to film released in your own lifetime you would be able to see what films came out when you were, say, ten years old, etc.

Perhaps the year could be have a colored square behind it that represents a genre like Westerns or Romantic Comedy. This would let you see at a glance how the genres changed through the years.

I can only imagine how expensive this would be to do, but maybe I'll get around to it one day.

You're right. It might end up looking like one of those painting color charts. "Yellow is comedy, but browny yellow is comedy with a bit of horror"

Personally speaking that's not how I would arrange my shelf, I like to have my series of films together. For example I like to see all my James Bond 007 movies together on the shelf instead of spread out all over the place.

I also put the year for 2006's "Casino Royale" on the spine to distinguish it from the 1967 debacle and people complained so much that I removed it.

That's how I have them now and that's how most people would have it, but I just thought it'd be interesting the other way. For example with the Bond series you could see how it's changed to what films were being released around that time. Moonraker (1979) would have Alien and Star Trek near it and a couple of years earlier would be Star Wars and Close Encounters.

If anyone is in need of a few custom covers printed feel free to shoot me an e-mail and I will print them out for you and mail them. I would need a little money to cover shipping and the cost or paper and ink but nothing for my time or anything. I use HP glossy paper and they look great printed. If you want them inside a case I can do that also
