As it was my work that was copied, I reserve the right to speak out on it, and to get "pissy" as you put it. You don't think it's worth griping about and that's duly noted.

Allow me to get all Soup-Nazi on you and inform you you'll never have a cover from me.

Where's Rybev with one of his: "Member for a month and already making friends, I see."?
(Oh, I see he already posted on the subject. Thanks my friend.)

You're more than welcome F

I was wondering whether to re-use my classic line about designing a cover for "How To Lose Friends and Alienate People"

Everyone is entitled to their opinon, but given that this Custom Cover forum is possibly the politest, friendliest forum you could hope to visit, you would think Willdta may have structured their opinions a little better.

In this line you show just how illinformed you are. There is a lot more to working a custom than just the simplistic work you reference. Often we have to repair posters that show significant wear and creases and also rearrange the posters elements to make them fit a Blu-ray cover.

Then come up with a spine and back cover that fits the poster style(s). In fact the back cover is usually considered to be the hardest part of doing a custom cover.

Please Willdta -- grace us with some of your custom covers.

Obviosuly he cannot appreciate fine art. As that is exactly what it is, Art, and the artists (custom cover creator's) that spend the time usually making them for themselves but often share their works with those of us who do not have the "skills" or the "patience" to put together a custom cover. anyone who just wants to slap something together can just as easily use photoshop, download a blu template, copy and paste a one sheet poster, and shrink it to fit the templet. But the resolution will look like ass and well like the above mentioned, good luck with the back cover.......hell I'm still stumped on how to do the spine.....lol

Seems like I started a big ethical discussion!

I do recognise the "ownership" of Art, and this is why I "asked" in my very first post if it was ok with you guys and Nissen to borrow/copy/ripp-of an exclusive design.

Obviously now, thinking about it, I should not have asked and I should have started a cover all by my own with a 100% fresh design (something I know I'm capable of), but somehow, I was very tempted by "that" impossible to get design.

I'm very happy Nissen told me to go forward and finish my series covers, but it just feels wrong in away. Expect me to come back when all my Bond covers are done, with a unique Spine and a new Border this time like I should have did since the very beginning!

Hopefully, my mistake will be a exemple about what not to do in custom covers!

See ya!

hehehe - not trolling i just just call situations as i see it. People may work hard on these covers and even sell some. that does not mean the same thing as holding a copyright. maybe you have some kind of moral code that would prevent others from taking it, but how could one possibly begin to impose your own ethics on others. in some peoples minds it would make absolute sense to to imulate one of these designs. Especially if they consist of mostly modified images that are already readily available to the public. if i had the ability to make one myself, why shouldn't i right? if you all had the ability to make your own cars in your garage, would you go to chevy or BMW and ask permission first? HELL no! you would just do it.

i think both sides have valid points here. can any of you people agree to that without siding with the other because they are senior members? or is logic no longer prevalent in this world.

Anyway, I think Willdta's nonsense has taken up enough of this thread so allow me to get back to the business in hand.

Everyone is familiar with my 007 custom covers but one thing that I always wondered was if I could put together an alternate back cover with more imagery so I put this rough back cover together.

Note: I am only posting the back cover because the spine and front cover would remain the same:

If people think its worth the effort I'll tidy this up and do a different back for all the customs.

Starting a post with "hehehe" doesn't really help, just proves you're enjoying the fact that people are wound up - that's trolling, NOT calling situations as they are.

Best you go and play with others your own age.

Wouldn't the circular pictures be better horizontal - like the opening gunbarrel effect?
And instead of more pictures on a vertical column, why not use an alternative poster design such as the teaser posters - either in full or faded across.

hey guys, still getting the hang of photoshop, and just went with an easy one, but i kinda like it because of the simplicity. lol, alot better than my DOTD monstrosity, lol. still could use some work, but i like it.

no extra stuff needed written on this one, if you don't know what it is about, then there is something wrong

I like the basic front cover but the words Jaws in red underneath would give that a fantastic look. Centerize the word Jaws in the spine and I think you really oughta come up with something else for the back.

Like where this is heading man. The front cover is definately inspired.

That's more like it. A minimalist cover is a good place to start.
Practice makes perfect. See you at Carnegie Hall.

P.S. Make the Universal logo more legible by turning it white

As an alternative to the famous Jaws image, your cover is a great start.
Another image you could use for the reverse is the image of Michael Brody when he is in the water after the pond attack. There's something about his face that sums up the true horror of what's just happened.

Variety is the spice of life my good friend. To be quite honest, the cover he has chosed could easily pass for a Criterion if it was done correctly.

You went with the album artwork for Jaws 2 (it's original and that awesome) and I commended you for it. I think this guys new take on a cover is pretty original.

Thats why I enjoy this thread so much. Such talented people giving Blu-Ray art a new breath of fresh air with originality.

http://www.rarecultcinema.com/2011/10/02/classic-vhs-cover-art-esselte-norway/

I too do love the original art work as well, as Jaws is my favorite movie of all time. I am currently trying to put together another Jaws cover using the original art work......sort of. you will see

I can see what you mean by the look of an art movie, but I was looking for something different, creepier, something that when you looked at it, you knew what it was, but you had to second guess yourself. and plus, its from the sharks perspective...the front is anyway

I am having lots of fun messing with different covers, and I love seeing some of the custom covers on here, it just gives a fresh feel to some movies, that when you think of a certain movie, you only have that one image burned into your mind, so this gives a different perspective, so maybe you might look at a movie differently.

sup fellas?

so i did some tweaking my Jaws cover. i put in the original JAWS font with a brighter red, added to the front, and centred on the spine. also inverted the universal logo, and of course changed the back cover up. i appreciate the input that peeps have been leaving, it starts putting other ideas into my head. opinions and tips????

also, going to post up some with the original art work and some tweaks and such. rock on!!!
