Where did the artwork you used for this come from. It's pretty neat. Can this be scaled to fit into a 12mm case? I only have the feature disc at the moment (and no real prospects to get the bonus disc any time soon) so I would like to just store mine in a 1-disc or 2-disc case but I know the original 3-disc case that this movie came in is like 14mm wide so the original artwork is not transferable.

Glad to see more Reel Heroes cover being made, It's a great template and honestly you can't jump the shark no more than the official series did when they included Trainspotting, King Kong and Jurassic Park. If anyone is looking for ideas for the series I would recommend Hitman

I get a lot of requests for labels to go alongside my custom covers, and I seldom, if ever, make them. As I see it, labels are only necessary when you burn discs yourself. Right? Either for "backups" you've made of your own discs, or to adorn your pirated disc with some artwork to make it look official. Is there any legitimate (i.e. legal) reason for the demand for labels to print? For me, custom covers are all about replacing the official artwork on films you've bought, and I see this as a perfectly legitimate reason for the custom cover scene to exist. In this scenario labels serve no function. Unfortunately, to the world at large, custom covers carry with them the association to piracy. This association is why PayPal ceased their services with all the cover sites last year. And yes, I give the labels a large part of the blame for this. The presence of printable labels squarely associates the custom cover scene with piracy. Please note, I am not attacking the artistry involved in making disc labels. (Though I suspect to some artist they're just a quick way of earning some download points at your preferred site.) I see every custom cover site has a heavy emphasis on labels, and indeed there seems to be quite the demand for them from the members. To be honest, I wish the custom cover sites would take the high road and eliminate labels from their services, to minimise the stink of "piracy" associated with the custom cover scene. They won't do it, of course, because labels generate a lot of traffic and earn them plenty of purchased download points. I just want this wonderful hobby of mine to clean up its act. The general use of copyrighted images is the main point of contention with the practice of making covers, of course. But I can defend the existence of custom covers and their legitimate use in replacing artwork of store-bought films. I cannot defend the existence of custom labels in the same way. |

It also gives me something to do while I wait for another movie to come along on Blu-ray that interests me in the custom cover area. I never work on covers which don't interest me in some level. I personally would never use them myself because there is always the risk of damaging the disc itself. That said....it certainly earns a couple of credits on customaniacs and I have been surprised at how often they are uploaded. As someone who loves the original artwork used to promote the movies, I can sort of understand the motivation. But your point is well taken. Last edited by DrrnHarr; 06-02-2013 at 12:33 PM. |

Gearing up to get some serious work done on my long dormant "Dragonslayer" custom cover set:
![]() Not quite sure where I am going with the back cover yet, but like that I found some Marvel artwork/tie-ins for the movie. Do they still do tie-ins for movies today as they did extensively in the 1980s or has the literacy level in the U.S. finally bottomed out to the point that kids don't read novelizations anymore? |

Have you thought about incorporating your labels onto the other side of the artwork? I quite like double-sided artwork and it would be neat if people who had your fantastic designs could see the custom disc when they remove the retail one.

Discs that either have no real label other than a basic imprint of the title and a few logos, and discs that are burned for reasons other than so-called piracy. I have found several custom labels that are as much "art" as many of the covers I have used. I posted a question about using labels on discs that already have factory labeling on them several pages back for this very reason. I have begun using a few labels on some of the discs I replace the covers on and I was wondering about damage to the discs or my player (ie, labels peeling off, etc.) As for burned discs, I have several instances where I have recently burned discs I owned for one reason or another. Specific instances I can cite are re-encoding the audio on the recent Battlestar Galactica, which was encoded incorrectly resulting in no center channel audio and vocals coming out of the left and right channels. Also, I have re-encoded more than one movie to adjust brightness and contract. The Arrival was actually released with a substandard transfer, called a one-light, that had very poor black level. Michael Mann darkened Last of the Mohicans to the point that one needs a very bright direct view TV to even make out some scenes. One a front projector, like mine, it is simply too dark. There was a time that we had to accept whatever was put on a disc and sold to us. Now we have the ability to make adjustments that can either correct a mistake, or heaven forbid, impose the owner's preference instead of the filmmakers. I know that will sound like "heresy" to some, but I consider it a "legitimate" reason to burn a disc. Why shouldn't I have a label for it? Just my POV. I hope that does not disqualify me from getting your gorgeous cover art ![]() |

Ref: Custom labels. I have always assumed that people used labels for discs which included no or inadequate art. In the early days of DVD Disney would list art on the disc itself as a selling point/feature. |
