Customaniacs appears to require submitted covers to include a sysopsis, disc specs, legal info, etc..., and as someone with a desire to emulate vintage VHS packaging and a strong creative streak, I don't always plan to include all that stuff. I don't think Customaniacs would consider my EtD and Dune covers up to their snuff, let alone my idea of a blank VHS for The Ring in a Criterion case (inspired by CC's own Videodrome). I have a better feeling of creative freedom at EurphoricFX.

(The approval process at CM also strikes me as a bit ironic, since some of the artistic output over there is almost terminally bland. EuphoricFX seems like a more artistically inventive community.)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I had the same reaction when I first read CustoManiacs' "terms of service". It almost scared me away too, but I stuck with it, and submitted my stuff for approval and got through the trials without a hitch. I do think they should reword their info, because it alienates some good cover designers, like yourself and even Imrahil. Their loss, unfortunately.

However, when it comes down to it, they don't stick draconically to those "rules" about the design of a cover. I was hesitant at first, to upload minimalist covers and even some vintage-looking VHS recreations, because they so obviously weren't the "house style", but haven't gotten any complaints.

I've been considering joining EuphoricFX, so I may see you all over there

I also had the same impression when I uploaded my first covers there. But after some attempts you understand that the reason for this is that we should all think about small things like you normally would not think about but in the big pictures it is very important.

So think about details. So all those who are new in custom cover scene if u read what customaniacs admin say you will see that you learn to think about details.

Default Mad Max Custom Blu-ray Cover by Nissen

Here's my take on the first Mad Max.

I wanted to stick to the look of the original Warner video covers, but found myself taking some liberties with this one.

I went back to the original version of Tom Beauvais' artwork, which is slightly different than the version on Warner's cover. BTW, does anyone know who did the Mad Max 2 poster I used?

The original cover didn't have a tagline for the poster, but I felt it needed one to fill up the empty space. This tagline was on the original UK quad.

The last liberty was on the back. The image was b&w on the old cover, but I kept it in colour on my version.

Now, just Thunderdome to go, with Richard Amsel's final poster (I believe). Looking forward to it.

Awesome recreation Nissen. For those unfamiliar with the style Nissen is mimicing...here is the VHS version of that cover:

Personally speaking I think Nissen's is A LOT better than the original

Hi Robert.
Usually when someone asks me that it means they think the alternative is better :-)

In answer to your question, no, I never considered the US poster as an option because I was aiming for a recreation of the UK VHS.

Even if I thought the US poster was better (which I don't), I would have stuck with the UK art.

Default Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome Custom Blu-ray Cover by Nissen

The cover for Mad Max beyond Thunderdome was much harder to recreate than the previous two.
Warner's template had evolved by 1985, so several logos are updated compared to Mad Max 1 and 2.
The major deviation was the design of the back, and I decided to recreate the montage from scratch. Not difficult, just a lot more work.
I had to pick between consistency across all three covers or being faithful to the actual VHS cover. I chose the latter.

Now that all three are done, feel free to PM me for copies.

Fantastic work Nissen....simply amazing.

It brings back so many memories to see these retro-style Warner covers.

As you know I like to incorporate old studio logos on my covers and it was a real kick for me to see the old circa-1979 Warner logo at the beginning of "Argo".

I never owned the Mad Max VHS tapes but I did collect a number of Warner released VHS tapes that had this cover design, and all the circa-1983/84 James Bond 007 VHS tapes that had a slightly modified version of the cover (modified to include the UA logo).

PM sent

It was a simple question and not worthy of mocking. If I want that image for a cover, I can make it myself. Yes, my opinion is the image I posted would make a more attractive cover. My question was simply inquiring as to Fritz's creative process.

BTW, I have appreciated a number of your covers as well. Thanks for that.

Robert. Let me apologise for being the instigator of this designer in-joke at your expense. I assure you, no slight was intended, and no offense taken at your question. I am sure the others meant no disrespect either.

Please accept my apologies.

No apology necessary. Perhaps I was being a bit sensitive and took Imrahil's comment wrongly. But, thanks for being a gentleman about it. Way, WAY too little of that on public forums.

Moving on...

Has anyone done a decent double feature cover for both Gremlins films? I've seen various covers at a few sites but they aren't very good.
