Sooooo, one need not go out and get a cat, dog, parrot etc. as another living companion. The Viz is a multi-purpose entity. My wife and I have a living creature down there in our San Diego place which is better than a plant because it talks and we don't have to worry at all about feeding it, walking it, or having it rip up our furniture when we're up here in the LA/OC county environs.

1.an HDR on set monitor is sorely needed
2. DP’s and Directors coming to a consensus as to a standard light level best for HDR capture at least as a guide for new practioners
3. Set an exposure goal (in your mind) for objects and surroundings of most interest of more like ~ 5½ stops rather than the currently typical 3½ stops
4. Locking down a transfer function for the HDR master such as ACES

For, I think, these days , the creation/building of new teaching centers devoted to new technology (HDR) on the grounds of major Hollywood studios, or at least at Sony Pictures, like this one in the past http://www.studiodaily.com/2010/02/s...nology-center/ would indeed struggle to come to fruition.

As to smaller studios, RED could always step up to the plate by offering one of their REDucation training programs centered around HDR. Just sayin...

To long term readers, I know, I know, as one can identify from the file name… WeddingRinger-CCAP_FTR_S_EN-XX_OV_51-HI-VI_4K_SPE_20141220_DLA_IOP_OV, this theatrical deliverable is yet another interop DCP, but progress does continue (in that regard with a meeting next week on the WB lot, amongst other matters of D-Cinema interest) towards the goal of SMPTE DCPs to theaters, which are/will be superior.

As for the footy, we have finally got shot of Altidore and signed ex Toronto man Defoe. He has an excellent record in the Premier league so I hope he can still do it at the age of 32!

I haven't posted much in the 4k forums but believe me, I. Cant wait for 4k discs.
I'm purely a consumer of all that UHD goodness though, don't really know all the heavy tech stuff!

Well I could delve into excruciating detail as to exactly how it was determined how many bits per color per pixel (12) for DCI (theatrical D-Cinema motion pictures) would be sufficient (in order for viewers not to see artifacts) by the luminance experiment(s) conducted at thee old digital cinema lab of the ETC, but… I’ll spare you.

This is a light read, but you’ll still be way ahead of most by learning some consumer-level accurate cutting edge info from significant players in the food chain offering insight. Point taken, the backer rewards should be remedied with the choice of either a DVD or a Blu-ray disc, as the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers should offer the best engineered physical media home delivery format there is currently available to the funders.

Now, in regards to colors, one of the reasons why the DCI chose the color coordinates of XYZ for the gamut container is that the thinking was to provide an enabling foundation upon which technological improvements in D-Cinema colorimetry could be built in the future.

This is of the same mindset as to why BT.2020 support is a good thing for Ultra HD Blu-ray and was chosen, despite current consumer TVs not being capable of full BT.2020 primaries coverage at this time. As to D-Cinema, when lasers become economical for theatrical exhibition and mastering; likewise, the DCI spec will not need to be redone in order to include presentation of a wider color gamut than P3 because, with ACES, a newly expanded gamut laser ODT could be utilized to do it.

As apparently some misinformation or at least confusion about the nuances of HDR following CES 2015 is appearing on the world wide web since HDR was such a big theme at the show in Vegas, I’ve now received more than one inquiry regarding extended dynamic range as to what movies can and can not be remastered (with value) in HDR in terms of the latitude of the recorded source material.

I’ll type up a simple easy-to-read response tomorrow maybe supplemented with a tiny bit of insider industry info because I’m too tired tonight. Later.
