Default excellent director/over-rated film

i liked the movie, but we will look back on this movie in the future and realize its not really a very good film.....a nice made for tv film...not a knock on affleck who is quite talented as seen in..gone baby gone and the town...but its an american fantasy film to a large part.....

Nah it'll always be a good film. Question is will it be considered among the all-time greats? That I doubt. I think it will ultimately be regarded as Crash or Slumdog, as opposed to the Godfathers and Schindler's Lists of the world.

The majority of BP winners don't reach those heights. I'm sure I'm guilty of it too, but I don't think it's right to even compare BP winners from different years as a Best Picture winner is only competing against the rest of the films from their respective year, and thus depends entirely on the quality of films released for that year.

Highly enjoyed the film. I am going to wait on buying the blu-ray though. There are too many other amazing titles coming out.

Michael Sheen is angry that he wasn't cast as Michael Sheen.

yea I hear you but I can't help it. It is what it is. I think there's an established standard of greatness all things ultimately get measured by. Example: is it fair to compare one sports figure to another from a different era? Probably not, but we do it anyway.

As the years go by, Argo will mainly be remembered for winning Best Picture without its director get nominated. I also think that people will realize that Affleck wasn't "snubbed" by the academy as his direction was merely competent.

But think of how rare competence is. It's something to be celebrated. The geniuses are on their own level, but even when you include the competent craftsmen, that still isn't many people.

Can we move off the Oscars already? I don't think Affleck is complaining right now. The guy has two Oscars, one for writing a movie (Good Will Hunting) that is still beloved 15-16 years later. His movie just won Best Picture. Warner is giving him first option on any script they have. They even offered him Justice League.

As for the rest:
Kathryn Bigelow -- won two Oscars
Michael Haneke -- won Best Foreign Film
Tom Hooper -- won Best Director not too long ago
Ang Lee -- won three Oscars (including Best Foreign Film)
Steven Spielberg -- has three competitive Oscars and Thalberg Award
Quentin Tarantino -- two Writing Oscars
Benh Zeitlin -- major Oscar nominations for his first feature; already happy to be there

I sure hope he continues to make the films he wants, and not get sucked into some superhero franchise in the distant future. That would be incredibly disappointing.
