I guess it makes some sort of case in terms of preparing for an utter worst case. And I guess in some ways a rage type rabies/28 Days Later non zombie type zombie could be possible. Not the raise from the dead type

Actually I think it is more for the "superbug" that is spread by germs from person to person. They just use the "Zombie" thing because it's cool right now

Pretty surprised at the positive reviews, not that I was expecting a bad show at all. Still very excited for the premier.

Three mixed and two mildly favorable reviews isn't really positive IMO....

I too was wondering what link Captain Flint clicked on. None of these reviews are very enthusiastic.

From Wiki: Set in Los Angeles, the series follows a divorced male teacher, a female guidance counselor, and her two children–a son and a daughter–in the opening stages of the zombie apocalypse as they come to terms with the impending collapse of civilization

Yes, it's a prequel of sorts. Season 1 takes place while Rick is in a coma and the outbreak begins.

Later seasons may catch up to where TWD is though time wise.

My anticipation for FearTWD is growing. I'm curious about it. Just don't know how long the series will go on for if it is indeed as huge of a hit like the Mothership is.

Been anticipating this for a while now. FTWD (or The Walking Dead: LA… I predicted it when a spinoff was announced ) will be doing what the creator of TWD (Frank Darabont) wanted to do in the 2nd season of TWD.
In flashback, Frank wanted to open S2 Ep1 and tell the story of how Amy & Andrea met Dale and how the CDC and Atlanta fell and how
[Show spoiler]that person cum walker got in the S1Ep1 tank
.

2 reasons why TWD did not go down that route:
Firstly - Cost. At the time AMC was asking Frank "Can we hear the Zombies and not hear them" and "How about more stuff indoors"
Secondly - More experienced TV producers informed Frank (who was a very proficient movie maker) that you need to premiere with where the story is at and follow the already established characters for those tuning in for the first time.

Frank did get to film how Atlanta was napalmed in a flashback sequence in S2 Ep5 (and how Lori, Shane and Carl met Carol and Sophia)… Fear TWD could use this marker in time for storytelling (ie. a radio report that Atlanta has been destroyed) and will give us an idea of where our LA characters are on the timeline relative to the original show.
*It is a real pity we have not had more flashback storytelling in the TWD. And of course, Frank Darabont was fired halfway through Season 2.

I know I will enjoy FTWD as it takes us back to the concepts born from the original zombie film and the Godfather of the genre - George A. Romero's: Night of the Living Dead. Highly recommended.

In Night, the characters are also at the beginning of a zombie outbreak and are learning all about the science of walkers (get bit = turn, noise = bad, shoot head = to kill etc.). Some may find this frustrating (as did one reviewer) but the suspense will be there, as we know that sh*t is about to go down, but the protagonists won't… And there in lies the entertainment.

Plus, FTWD has a lot of hard working, talented people generating story and creating what I believe will be a thrilling drama that serves as a companion to TWD (judging by the preview and extras I have seen so far).

FTWD will be a different kind of show in some ways, but similar in a lot of ways and I am sure it will be adopted with gusto. It appears that the execs at AMC are very happy with the first 6 episodes, as they have already ordered 15 episodes for S2 of FTWD! This augers well for fans… 60% of the year there will be either Fear or TWD on once a week.

For thread readers from the Great Southern Land: Finally, there is news that FX Australia will premiere episodes a couple of hours after the US (Monday 1.30pm).

... and this show will be as dull and a snail's pace after 3 episodes as TWD is currently. I can't sit through another show where someone dies every other episode, then the next episode is dedicated to mourning previous day's loss.

They have way more to cover in this, giving they are covering the collapse.

TWD IMHO would have been a much better show if they'd followed the comic more. Carl was great from the start there, for example. On TV I was hoping he'd die, up to season 4 when he became likeable.

That's ok. Don't watch it. It won't miss you.

Pretty sure Season 4 and 5 (excluding Beth's storyline) have been damn faithful to the comic source. Scott Gimple is a HUGE fan of the comic book series and wants the show to stick as close to it possible. With minor changes and re-workings to fit into the show of course.

Oh, and comic book Carl is a total badass and would kill TV Carl within moments of interacting with him. Still waiting for the show to get Carl's character right and have him act like he is in the comics.

I've met Chandler Riggs, asking him to summon his inner badass might be a little much. Swell kid though.

Pretty excited for Fear The Walking Dead. With Robert Kirkman and Gale Ann Hurd involved, it should be amazing!
