The re-release of season 1 was rumored VERY early on. I almost think it was announced like the week before or the week it was released. Many people (including myself) laughed it off.

The only reason they did the re-release was because of the awkward set up of the first season. As stated by the cast/crew, they never expected the show to get that kind of ratings. It got a 6 episode order for a number of reasons. When they knew they had a hit, they wanted to release the 1st season asap on Home video but then do another re-release as anticipation kept building for the 2nd season. I highly doubt they would do another re-release since now the show is on a normal schedule. This looks like the "Special" release version.

I saw this on display at Toy Fair (in pics online) would they release this just as a collectors case without being packaged with a season of the show? I ask because it was not displayed with a Blu-ray and might be just a stand alone collectible.

Well one reason could be that S2 isn't released on blu yet.

They've already said there will be some different outcomes and characters than the comic, but that they'd still remain loyal to the source material. If they stick to their word, it'll be mainly a post apocalyptic soap opera that has zombies as mere accessories. But the comic has always been more about how its the living that are really the threat.

My only issue is with some of the casting. DeMunn, Lincoln, and many of the others have their characters down almost perfectly, but Holden is about 15 years older than her character and so far she isn't like the character in the book at all. Then there's T-Dog and right now he just seems to be a token black character. But hopefully the show will cast some as Tyrese soon, that character is a bad ass.

And why is it that tv seasons on dvd and blu ray very rarely ever drop in price like films? For example, V for Vendetta came out and it was 25, then it dropped to 15 and then 10. But with tv shows they seem to be about 25-45 dollars and once in awhile a store will drop the price by maybe five dollars for a week but then they go right back up in price. I never got that since tv shows cost less to make usually.

I've wondered this as well. Although with TV shows you get usually a 22-24 episode season. A show like the office you get a runtime of around 600 mins compared to a movie of about 90 mins.

Even The Walking Dead S1 has a runtime of 292 mins. So for the price you get a lot of content. So in a way even though I would like TV shows to be cheaper (around $20-25) I don't mind paying a little more knowing you are getting more.

TV shows drop in price all the time.

House Season 7 was ~$40 on Blu when it originally came out, and has been around $25 a couple of times. Season 6 has been available for $18 on Blu!

Supernatural seasons have been $25 or less on Blu as well.

I have bought lots of DVDs of TV shows for $6-$15 after 6 months to a year from their release date.

Walking Dead Season 1 on Blu has been available for $15 on Blu I think... though the re-release of Season 1 on Blu has not dropped that low yet.

I don't know where you are looking but Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart have routinely had serious deals on TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray if you are willing to wait for a while.

I'm not talking about weekly deals.. I'm talking about permanent price reductions.

For example, I got this on sale at Best Buy for 20 dollars years back when it was normally 35 dollars, but as you can see it went right back to the regular price.

Linky Linky

And it came out over six years ago.

I don't expect the TWD bd to be cheap already, but I do think its odd that shows as old as Buffy still retail at the same price even after all these years.

(Besides the 2-minute zombie cameos per episode of course) Spending half a season in the same boring location probably isn't the best idea to get people to tune in every week either!

It's too bad because the Pilot was absolutely incredible! The show just kinda faltered along the way...
I don't see how anyone could say season 2 is better than season 1. Season 1 had plenty of character development yet kept the action rolling constantly. We spent half of an entire season on one main storyline which was looking for the missing girl. The only real jaw dropping moment was when we found out they were feeding walkers in the barn.

But just because that's the retail price doesn't mean it is routinely selling for that price. Even the movies you speak of don't always get permanent price reductions... stores just start selling them "on sale" more and more often.

Damn it. It's so tempting for the packaging alone...but I have yet to get the definitive edition of the first season.

I don't think anyone would really say they think the second season is better than the first, but you have to remember - They really needed to make an impression with the first season. They did. Now they can use the slow burn technique and let the story unfold a bit more organically.

V for Vendetta, Terminator, Dawn of the Dead (remake), most of the Harry Potter films, they've been 10 dollars for a year at Target and a few other stores, and when they go on sale they just drop to 5-8. And those are just a few examples of films that have dropped significantly in price and have stayed at the 10 and under price. Tv seasons on the other hand, I do see them go on sale quite a bit but its usually like 5-8 dollars less than the retail price, which is still pricey.

Video games and films for some reason more often than not get a significant price drop as time passes. But tv shows for some reason just don't get the significant price drop.

Speak for yourself. I tend to think
[Show spoiler]Shane killing Otis so he could escape
was pretty badass! Also
[Show spoiler]when the midseason finale revealed that Sophia was in the barn as a walker and had to be killed.
I thought both those scenes were the most powerful to date.

Yeah, but you are cherry picking to some extent. There are a bunch of movies that don't seem to come down to lower prices either... and there are a LOT of TV shows that have come down in price regularly.

Look at all of those Target 2-packs of TV shows for $15-$20... those are significant savings over the original releases for those shows.

TV is no different than movies, in that some hold their prices better than others.

Do. You think Season 2 will get only one Edition or if it's likely to be re-released like Season 1 was?
