oh great, morons who think streaming is fine screw the rest of us.
it's up to US! to teach people streaming is bad and only to be used on a portable device when absolutely necessary I cut back my netflix to one disc at a time because it looked like they were dropping blu-ray if they start adding more titles I may increase my subscription

Robin, I have looked at your screens and you have a decent setup. Would you be happy not having a high quality HD source in your life? I know i wouldn't. Don't you love when you see a film in the cinema and think to yourself 'cannot wait to watch that at home on Bluray'? Watching a film at home via Netflix or some other highly compressed source would not generate that excitement. My home cinema would have a huge void that could not be replaced and my equipment would feel like a waste of money.

Hi alan, this is a war and people should wake up to it. Embrace Netflix at your peril home cinema fans.

Are they not worth watching either? A true film fan, as you proclaim to be, would never say they wouldn't touch a film if it were not on one particular format. That's a format fan, not a film fan.
Maybe that poster doesn't care for those films. I don't know it that makes that poster any less of a film fan. Anime, slasher, & porn are considered film too...do you have to be a connoisseur of those genre's to be a film fan? I think the term "film fan" is pretty vague. You just quicly compile a list of, widely viewed, top notch films to use as an example...but don't go to the opposite end of the spectrum.
Perhaps that poster spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on a top notch HD setup and only prefers the best quality media. I can't fault anyone for that. Just because someone doesn't go along with the masses, doesn't make them any less of a fan. It's just about establishing priorities, and then sticking to those priorities.
I agree to a certain extent, as I can't recall the last time I watched a DVD in it's entirety since I've upgraded to BD. I've done a ton of comparisons, for my curiousity, but that's about it.

Now that I can't say I agree with at all. I love Netflix, and have watched several hundred BDs since I joined. I'm aware that Netflix doesn't have every blu that comes out, and that is a downer for me...but certianly not a dealbreaker! I'm encouraged by the recent announcment that Netflix is going to boost it's BD library. I guess we'll see just how much going forward.
To summarize, I'm(in no particular order) a: film fan, BD fan, & Netflix fan.

Rick, you are correct about spending money on my setup and my love of picture and sound quality. But some people on the forum (not you!) make too many presumptions. I am happy with my satellite HD for TV viewing. I have sports, films and tv in hd. Great! I also have films (hundreds) on my shelves, including dvds i have close to 1,000 discs. I love the fact that if i want top notch, i have the option with my blurays. I need that quality of picture in my life (entertainment wise!) When i watch a film i want to feel it and sense it, not be disturbed by nasty blocks and stuttering cloud formations or odd looking explosions. A film that is shot on the latest cameras should be watched in the best quality. Bluray affords me that luxury. Streaming and downloads do not have a place in a home cinema.

Sure... I've had an HDTV since the days when the only HD sources I had to plug into it were my PC and my original Xbox. There wasn't even OTA HD in my area at that time yet. That doesn't however mean that I have to swear off every other form of movie delivery. I love movies. I will use any source that give me access to as many films as I can watch. I especially like story driven films, and documentaries. Netflix is an AWESOME source for these types of movies. Period! There are many films that, yes... I definitely want to watch them on blu-ray; films with heavy CGI or great soundtracks for instance. However, there are many other films that I am just as happy to watch on cable or streaming. My point is that a true film lover does not tie themselves down to one format, especially one whose catalogue is still relatively small in comparison with all of film history.

Honestly... I find it extremely offensive when people like you work so hard to insult people that enjoy streaming. I've seen you call people who enjoy streaming IDIOTS on a number of occasions. There's no need for that. If you enjoy blu-ray so much that you want to limit your moving watching enjoyment to only those titles available on blu-ray... great for you... but there's no need to insult those who do not wish to share that restriction on their choices of entertainment.

The fact that streaming exists, and is growing in popularity, shouldn't be viewed as a threat to blu-ray. In fact, blu-ray fans should be quite happy about it.... as inevitably it is helping to lower BD prices and causing pressure to transfer more catalog titles.

As i have mentioned before, i have other sources for films, just not streaming which is a awkward, unreliable and demanding technology which is offensive to watch sometimes. I stand by my idiot comments. Especially people who claim streaming is great quality! Maybe for Marty Mcfly, but not for present day considering we have super large, super slim full hd 1080p sources.

Calling a fan of streaming an idiot is exactly the same as calling a fan of college football an idiot if your opinion were that the only football worth watching was pro-ball. It's an opinion... and a stupid, disrespectful one at that.

My mistake, i presumed a site about bluray would be pretty much pro bluray across the board. Instead a handfull of people are embracing the very technology that could overtake bluray and send technology back ten years!

No... but your opinion is. My point is that you have no place judging how other people choose to spend their entertainment time and dollars. You flat out call the actual people that enjoy streaming idiots... and then when called out for it... state it again. I guess people that like to play SNES games are idiots too... because clearly the audio and video available on a PS3 or Xbox 360 is far superior. See what I am getting at?

Why? You are judging me for my viewing habits and dislike of streaming. It is a poor technology picture wise, there is no escaping that fact!

My issue was with a particular poster that was trying to point out how great streaming is PICTURE WISE!!! That (in my opinion) is a idiotic statement.
You jumped in on that post and declared your love for streaming also. Therefore, i will keep my thoughts to myself if they offend you so much.

This bothers me not the least! Streaming is a nice alternative for some, but until the worldwide infrastructure is upgraded to handle superior PQ/AQ(like blu-ray) and to a lesser extent: include bonus content...physical media is going nowhere anytime soon, but up!
Even IF the network infrastructure is thoroughly upgraded, it's quite possible that unlimited internet access will no longer be an opition. Now if that happens, and it has in many areas over the globe, streaming all of sudden doesn't seem that appealing.
So I won't be losing any sleep any time soon over streaming, and all the while I'll continue to watch my Netflix BD's roll in each week!

I think you are worrying way too much on this issue. Sometimes looking too far ahead makes one miss what's right in front of them here & now.

You really don't have to be a rocket scientist to see the writing on the wall here. I'll stick to my original statement: WHEN Blockbuster finally goes under, the 30 day delay will be lifted! Heck it might even happen sooner, rather than later. This was a dumb deal as soon as it was stuck and it seems all involved know this.

**I look forward to revisiting this post in 2-3 years**
the issue is not BB it is Netflix and redbox wanting to pay less. They negotiated the window for lower prices on their end.
