Netflix Turns Focus Back to Disc

Do you only have a few titles in your queue? I don't understand why they would be sending you dvds when you're subscribed for BD?
For example I have ~170 titles in my queue(~280 in my saved). Of those 170 titles, ~54 are BD, the rest are dvd. Now I'm on a 3-disc out rental, so at that rate I'll never run out of BDs, and just keep rotating the BD(as they become available) above the dvd to ensure I don't get dvds(and in the hopes those dvds get upgraded to BD).
Perhaps you can add more titles to your queue and you could do the same thing?

I've got 236 discs in my que, 68 are DVD. Now quite a few are miniseries or old tv shows that haven't made it to BD yet. Still, there are titles like Solomon Kane, You've got mail, Win, Win, Zathura and Ed Wood that spring to mine. Like you, my list is pretty all over the place and I keep bumping things down that I hope will eventually get a blu disc.

I have Blockbuster At Home as part of my Dish subscription and its horrible. Of the ~ 40 I have in queue, 3/4 are not available and of the ones that are, they are very old DVDs. Its truly pathetic. But you do have the option of in store returns and rentals. Its just that they closed all the stores around here. Back in the day, 10 years ago, I'd have 500 movies in my NetFlix queue and no problems getting discs, turn around was 2 days.

If you have 236 discs in the queue, minus the 68 that are dvd, then that should leave you with 168 BDs? I don't see how you would be getting dvds sent to you unless you wanted them? Unless I'm missing something??

Only when my wife bumps up her movies Rick On a side note. It does amaze me how many people do Red Box. Call me lazy and to each their own, but I like walking out to my mailbox instead of standing in a long line. Not to mention not being penalized for having a movie too long. Hell, I had Inglorious Bastards for over a month I think?

Yep, I'm right there with ya! I've probably cycled through over 1000 BDs with Netflix. Obviously I'd like to have everything on BD, but I know that isn't going to happen, so I can't complain that much.

Okay... Breaking Bad and Sherlock are masterpieces of television, but give me a break on the rest. I don't mind Netflix's movie selection as I'm a fan of indie and foreign films, but it's not a stretch to state their selection for mainstream movies from the last five years or so is pretty pathetic. HBO Go and Max Go destroy Netflix's movie selection for recent, popular movies.

Netflix is a great way to watch television shows though. And it's pretty clear that television is their focus going forward based on their steps they are taking to try to be the next HBO.

OK, isn't this thread supposed to be about the physical media aspect of Netflix, not streaming? If so, can we get back to that please? Here, I'll help move things on. I agree Rick and that's why I'm a little surprised that some of the movies I listed aren't on BD. I really want to see Solomon Kane and will suck it up I guess.

I bought SK, and can say it was well worth it! Great story, fantastic PQ/AQ and few nice bonus features. I'd be amazed if Netflix ever upgraded that one, but stranger things have happened.

Dude, you have to know how to work the system. I have a one disc at a time account and frequently get two at a time. How? I will pot something that says long wait or short wait at the top of my queue. Then something that shows available just below that in the number 2 spot. Typically, they will send the available one first and then will also send the one that has the wait. The thing is they ship it from another facility, which is further away. Works almost every time.

Rarely have I seen more than 1 title available for streaming out of 15 to 30 that I normally have in my BD queue at any one time. Understandable, for $8.00 a month all one can expect is content that does not have a long term high value. Same for Amazon Prime. I only keep the streaming part for the better half so she can view old TV shows on the iPad.

We do have 3 at a time Blu-ray disc rental from Netflix and that works out well for us.

I do have Amazon Prime for the free two day shipping. Their selection is about the same as Netflix. They did grab a couple TV series that Netflix won't have. But I watch the shows when they are on TV, I would rather have the streaming that has good movies. Most of the time I will find something that looks interesting, only to turn it off after about a half hour of so.

Well, if the thread is about renting…rather than Collecting (serious ownership of physical media) then I’ll chime in that I’ve been very happy with being a Blockbuster member as I pretty much get everything I want, when I want it, between having a Blockbuster online account and passing by a store location every day.

For me, you just can’t beat that particular combination HD renting solution….for the time being at least.

Haven't tried Blockbuster, but there aren't too many left in my neck of the woods. So it is pretty much a bust for a service for me. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime at the moment and I'm content. So I think I'm good. Like I said earlier, I like going to the mailbox and finding a new movie or being able to stream my preschoolers favorite shows. I'm really looking forward to the separate profiles to drop on my Sony S5100. I set up a profile for me, my wife, and my son. So looking forward to moving their stuff to their own profiles. Of course once that happens my buddies are going to bust my balls about all the romantic comedies I watch

I'm starting to see more current, block-buster movies come to netflix streaming, which is nice, except the audio sucks. The video isn't great compared to blu-ray either but it's really the lack of lossless audio that has me keeping my disc service.

Actually it was an attempt to say that NetFlix isn't trying to get away from physical discs in the future because they didn't split it off.
