Now we can get back on topic.
Grain is PART of film unless shot digitally. You just not really seeing it on such a small screen (probably poor blacks also, which wont help definition)

2001: A Space Odyssey was not shot digitally...there's nary a speck of grain in it?
I think this thread is going into complete meltdown, if another "grain war" is going to start.

I KNOW GRAIN IS A PART OF FILM! Jesus Christ! Am I not allowed to dislike a director's artistic choices now?

I'm not going to continue it after this post. I am about to make another post about Netflix's streaming quality.

Look at Donster's speed test 4x's higher than mine. I imagine he doesn't run into the issues that I do. As I said I think it is lack of good connections that is holding streaming back. For me there is no replacing physical media I like the album/box art, inserts and disc art.
Actually ping and latency are as important as DL speed in determining the quality you will get... if not more so. I have a 6mbs connection and am able to stream HD without issue the vast majority of the time. Others with the exact speed may well experience substantial issues if their ping and latency are poor.

Latency and ping. What a pain!!!!! You need several variables just to be able to watch something in hd (lite)

Actually it's just one variable.... the quality of your internet connection. Sorry, but speed alone will not tell you the quality of your internet connection. There is nothing the end user can do to change their ping and latency.

I'm sorry that you take it so very personally that so many people do enjoy streaming. It really seems to cause you great stress. Maybe a nice herbal tea would help?

Well, I had a sample of a Netflix stream of an episode of Lost, but I can't make the post I had composed for some damn reason. I guess it's because I used MegaUpload to store the 25 second video file.

That remains to be seen...so far you've done nothing but dig holes! Some much deeper than others!
Every post you continue to put forth just makes you sound less knowledgeable.
As a hard working accountant I hope, by now, you've AT LEAST realized that 1080 is a bigger number than 480.
And if you "have forgotten more than I will ever know", then why haven't you presented any of it yet?
I'll be waiting to be impressed!

Furthermore: If you, by your own admission, don't care for Netflix and it's streaming....why are you even posting on this thread? Sounds kinda trollish.

Rick, 1080p hd in its purist form only exists on a disc, at least for home consumption. Now, as this is a bluray forum i shall comment on what i see fit. If this was a streaming only forum it would be trolling, but as a forum about the bluray format i think i am entitled. Just out of interest what do you do for a living? Promote streaming?

Yet again, you show your lack of knowledge! Yes this is a blu-ray FORUM, but what you keep posting in is a Netflix THREAD. You may not be aware of this, but a forum is made up of many threads...which are, in turn, made up of many posts.
Do I promote streaming? Not at all. Am I a fan of streaming? Of course! As of now in 2011, it can be viewed as a great resource for some, and I like to have it as an option if ever needed.
YOU, on the other hand, think it's the beginning of the end(another example of your lack of knowledge and/or foresight).
This is the 3rd time you've asked me if I: have/promote/champion/live for Streaming and I keep telling you that I just CANCELLED my Netflix Streaming because I don't use it that much. Again, you not keeping up with our conversation(of course that's understandable as you're being confronted by several forum members and you look like someone about to drown).
Since you CLEARLY don't have a horse in this race, I'm just wondering why you're devoting so much of your time to this thread(again, not the WHOLE blu-ray forum)....and that's another thing, this site started out as mostly all BD, but in case you haven't noticed(and the odds are you didn't) the site has branched out into many other directions: HT, Displays, 3D, Audio, Entertainment, Gaming, Movies currently in theatres, Hot Deal on all those I just listed, and one of the greatest feature(IMHO): The Silver Screen which gives us a great history of said film.
So yeah, with that said, you really impress me with your knowledge(lack of).

Are you 100% certain of this?
