For home consumption, unless you can think of another format that offers such low compression?

This thread also mentions discs. Gee, maybe it means bluray disc as well as dvd! You reckon?

Yes, but surely you don't need to post about BD/DVD in a Netflix thread, especially when you don't even use Netflix. Same kinda backwards...oh wait...

He definitely has invested a bit of time to this thread alone Rick. Just for giggles I went back and looked through all of his posts and he's devoted at least 5 pages of them to this thread alone My question is this, is Netflix even available in the UK? If not, where is he basing his argument on? I honestly don't see how this guy has time to work if he's constantly in this thread trying to bait everyone?

I'm sure you would too, of all places: A Netflix thread. Kudos, you keep digging yourself deeper & deeper!

Don, Hah! Good point. I'm not sure if it's available in the UK, Mr.Eel care to enlighten?
Just remember if it does come to light that Mr.Eel is (s)trolling, I called it first!!
Yeah 5 pages, and about only 3 sentences of meaningful, fact-based content. That's not a good ratio.

You should know what i am basing my streaming comments on. Keep up will you.

I have time to work because i work throigh the day not night. Uk has different timezone. It only takes seconds to post so it is hardly demanding.
Anyway i have nothing further to say, i dislike streaming and love bluray. If people try to say something is better than it is i will comment on that. If people cannot handle the truth that is tough. You guys need to get rid of the green eyed monster me thinks!

A point all of us have been trying to make to him since this thread started Tucker. I've quoted RobinandTami several times and he still doesn't get the point. Maybe this time it will sink in though and he'll stop trolling the thread up. Because at this point he doesn't have a leg to stand on if he hasn't watched streaming. While it isn't on par with BD yet, it isn't a bad alternative to those of us without disposable incomes

You said 1080p only exists in its purist form on a physical disc. I proved otherwise and I'd argue a digital image is more reliable than a BD.

Convenience isn't important to me personally. Even with a blu-ray collection currently at 473, plus my remaining dvd collection (which will all be upgraded to blu's in the not to distant future), I still choose to go to blockbuster when I want to rent something. I myself are not into watching many seasons, but my fiancee is a season junkie, she buys tones of them, but she does rent the odd full season from time to time for $4 from blockbuster. $4 is all my local blockbuster video charges to rent any full season.

I find if u make convenience the most important thing with somethings then u start getting used to it and before long u start wanting it in every aspect of your life, and it can start to make u lazy. For example when u go shopping for food if u opt for already chopped up vege's instead of chopping them yourself, that's being lazy. My dad actually still sweeps his long driveway with a broom which takes him about 45 minutes to do, because he thinks using a leaf blower is just lazy. Some would consider that as doing things the hard way, but he still manages to get everything in day to day life done even after working 14 hour days.

Point being is that u can always find the time do something if u really want to. My dad bought me up the same way, which is 1 reason why I prefer to go to blockbuster instead streaming content to my tv. I think that's the biggest difference between the older generation and the younger gen, younger people are often soft and wouldn't know what a real hard days work is compared to the older gen, they want everything done for them or at least made easier so they don't have to put as much effort into individual tasks, but all it does is really make everyone lazy.

Convenience is the #1 commodity on the planet, if you think about it! It may not be readily visible in some purchases, but it's there alright....and the more convenient, the more it's likely to cost.
The question then becomes, what is your line between cost vs. convenience? It varies for everyone, for a myriad of reasons!
I think for the purpose of this thread, some people enjoy the ease of having something streamed directly to their house.
You mention your father "sweeping his driveway" and taking a longer period of time to do, than using a blower. Well you can apply that logic to, say, running water(since we're discussing stream). I'm sure you have water piped right to your house. But why? Water is free, just go out and get it. Why pay a monthly/quarterly/yearly water bill? Oh yeah convenience.
Sorry but this debate could go on longer than any of these:

1) LOTR green tint
2) Han shooting first
3) Who killed JFK

I understand what u are saying, but u can't deny that people are getting lazier than ever and things like streaming are a part of the problem. I don't think water was a good example for u to use, considering we need water to survive, but we certainly don't need tv's to survive. Plus going out to find clean water safe enough to drink in major cities is damn near impossible. Though with that being said a lot of people do collect their own water here in Australia, plenty of homes have water tanks installed to collect rain water to save money on water costs and because we go through heavy droughts periods quite often.

I never denied that we, as a society, are getting lazier...as we depend more & more on machines to do the work for us. Okay, point taken about the water reference. How about do you use a home computer? Then why? You can do math on paper, write documents on paper, physically carry messages to other people, etc etc..why a home computer, because it's convenient.
Ya see how the "convenience angle" spans to big a picture to be encapsulated in a Netflix thread?
Just so you know, I'm not against your point...just looking at it from a different perspective.

Well to put things a little in perspective, a season here from blockbuster is 2.99 a disc and i know in other area's of the country its more, and with most seasons being roughly 6 discs, a single season then becomes, $18. Then you factor in availability, i need disc 3, but its not in (i hope..... as it could have been returned defective, or never returned at all). Then you factor in gas prices (far from cheap), Late fee's if something comes up etc...

All kinds of added costs, i don't think laziness always applies to convenience. In this case if anything its being responsible, those with a family to support do not need to be spending thousands of dollars on movies and tv shows. Cable has been the standard for a long time, and as i see it streaming/vod is just an evolution of that, one that can be a smart move for many people. A supplement to home media purchases, and a very cool (imo) feature to add to the enormous amount of choices in electronics to day.

No no I get your point, and it's a valid 1 but so is mine, neither of us are wrong, because both of our points hold truth. It's funny u bring up computers though, because my dad doesn't use a computer either, he runs his own business (he's a builder) but does everything on paper, book work, taxes etc. He wouldn't even know how to turn 1 on, and he doesn't want to know. His wife even bought him 1 about a year and a half ago and it just sits there collecting dust.

Sorry I got the price we pay from blockbuster wrong, I just asked my fiancee and she said it's actually $3 a disc (same as what u pay) or $10 to hire a whole season, don't know what I was thinking. Though now I'm wondering why she bothers hiring them, considering a few local 2nd hand stores sell full season for $6, and they have a pretty big selection to choose from. It's probably because she's aware that I won't ever buy 2nd movies for myself.

Things sound like they are much different there than they are here. Streaming is expensive here and there currently are not many companies who offer the service, and companies that do only offer about 2000 things to watch, which isn't much of a variety to choose from IMO. Here buying movies in most circumstances is the best and most responsible option, considering it costs us $17.50 (or $22 for 3d) per adult and $10.50 per child (not sure what a 3d movie ticket costs for kids) to go to the cinemas.

But regardless of all that, even if streaming services were better and cheaper here, I would still choose to walk up to blockbuster, because it gets me out of the house and can use the time to have a good conversation with my fiancee, that's worth a few extra dollars too me. Plus I like to buy snacks or alcohol sometimes if I don't have any, I really enjoy having a bourbon or beer and some nibbles while watching movies.

A BD that was shipped to me on the 15th, still hasn't arrived. I reported it missing yesterday. I'm beginning to think they don't want my business. I'll give them one more month. In the meantime, VUDU is my choice for streaming. I watched one of the 99 cent movies in HDX yesterday. 5.1 audio is better than Netflix which has very few movies with 5.1.
