Yeah his outlook on Blu-ray's future does seem rather bearish to an extreme. So much so, that I find it hard to fathom that he really believes it and is likely just trying to yank some chains. Or it could be a strong case of wishful thinking, who knows.

I can see people saying that cds are dying with iTunes being around - if you are a new artist, putting your cd on iTunes makes more sense then trying to sell physical copies since it hits such a wider market and you don't need a big label - but dvd/bluray are not going away any time soon.
I am i the same boat as you with this view. And studios just earn so much on physical media there is noway it will go away. Black Friday sales, christmas sales ect.. something Digital and Streaming could not even touch upon.

It is quite clear he is a Digital/Streaming troll now. You really can't get around that no matter what he says.

IMO (and I am unanimous in this*), we will have content available on a physical medium as long as there is money to be made from it.

My first video projector was a Kloss Novabeam Model 1A purchased in the early/mid 1980's. Here we are in 2014 and video projectors are still with us. I would wager that video projectors have never exceeded 1 to 2% market share yet there are a number of models available.

The same can be said of separate audio components, just don’t expect to find separate audio processors and amplifiers at Best Buy, H.H. Gregg, etc., but they are available elsewhere because there is money to be made from selling them.

*a phrase often used by Mrs Slocombe of Are You Being Served

So by that rational do you consider Steedeel or any other anti-streaming a troll too? Because there are some usual suspects (myself included) on both sides that pop on these types of threads. Like the console wars, I just don't get the extremes either side goes to explain their side of things. I definitely feel like there are quite a few of them that just get their jollies yanking someone's chain. How they have time to watch anything, streaming or BD is beyond me

Great point. I like how some, on this forum, keep tooting that streaming will end physical media. Why does something always have to "win out"?
As far as I know, streaming and physical media have coexisted(now there's an interesting word), quite nicely for the better part of a decade.

Exactly. It doesn't have to be either/or. Just recently I streamed The Bicycle Thief (1948) on Netflix, and I loved it, so I went ahead and bought the region B Blu-ray. Streaming will never replace Physical media for me, but will merely compliment it.

I gave you the reason why I dislike streaming in great detail. Where I believe it could lead etc.. You chose to ignore it. Doesn't make me wrong. I hope I am wrong, I honestly do.

Well I would probably take bear over the shooting that just occurred a couple hours ago at Columbia Mall...probably your old stomping ground, Penton.
I was a few miles away at Jiffy Lube when it happened. Shocking!

I know, I just got a call from a friend in Howard County, that's why I responded as I was thinking of you.

Remember guns don’t kill people….people kill people….that’s why we have such a large problem here in the U.S. with deaths due to knifings.

Listening to the local news, a woman was with her child at Cartoon Cuts(a children's barber) and the wife was going to take our little guy there today! Thank God she was still tired from her business trip.
All these senseless acts of violence. Horrible!

Exactly! Guns offer up way too much power to those that shouldn't have that type of power!

Oh well, at least we still have Netflix.

I’ve always thought of SVOD streaming services as another form of cable, satellite or telco video service. Read Hastings has said on several occasions the goal of Netflix streaming was to be the next HBO. Physical media has coexisted with MVPDs for many years, streaming simply adds another option for content. As such, it is a competitor to MVPDs, not physical media.

IMO, the anti streaming sentiment can be traced back to the HD DVD supporters that hated anything Blu-ray. I well remember when Warner announced exclusive support for Blu-ray many of the HD DVD supporters immediately pronounced streaming was the future. So the next time you see someone proclaiming streaming is the future and physical media is dead will indicate to you the person really does not understand streaming services, physical media and MVPDs. Also, search their posting history, don’t be surprised if you find they were big HD DVD supporters at some point in time.

The other side: some of the most vocal HD DVD supporters became (and remains) some of the most vocal Blu-ray supporters. My/our late friend Kosty (Kostyshak, Daniel) was one such person (man, I still miss you).

Exactly. They tend to make a cute comment every time someone says something positive about streaming. They think that comment will mean the demise of physical media and can't stand unchallenged. So yes, most definitely troll behavior. I own hundreds of BDs and own 4 playback devices. And I stream. So I do both and want both to be the best they can, not either or and hope the demise of the other.

I just read where Amazon now wants a premium TV station too. And NetFlix is in talks for the same. So both are going the route of HBO but in the opposite direction.

Read back some of your posts (since I joined so, two years) before you start labelling people. In my opinion, some of your arguments and posts could easilly come off as being (in my opinion) troll comments or provoking reactions. There is no way (in my opinion) your posts in the past have been neutral. They (in my opinion) clearly have not been so. So, forgive me, but your comments (in my opinion) come across as hypocritical.

But this is not a streaming thread. It's a thread about Netflix disc rental.
Yet you treat it like your own streaming message wall.
It's like going in an x-box thread and talking about about the playstation...or wait, do you do that too?
Go start a Netflix streaming thread and post all you want.
Do you even rent discs from Netflix? I'm wagering, probably not.

The thread was started in 2011. Clearly in 2014, Netflix focus is NOT on disc and this thread is exactly where it should be discussed.

Netflix financed the growth of streaming with disc rental. Streaming is now more profitable for Netflix than disc rental. Read the article:

http://www.businessweek.com/articles...-than-later#p2

I don't stream. I subscribed to Netflix for several years, but dropped them three years ago. I rent BDs from Red Box. I have around 250 BDs but my purchases have declined over the last two years. My only BD purchase this year was Jumper 3D and I will probably buy Gravity 3D sometime after the release. I doubt that I will purchase more than 5 BDs this year.

In a letter to investors, CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells said the service would begin using dvd.netflix.com on its disc mailers and on the DVD web pages.

“The dvd.netflix.com logo will feature our iconic envelope in a nod to our DVD-by-mail heritage, representing the huge selection that DVD offers; nearly every movie ever made,” Hastings and Wells wrote.
Not sure what they expect to gain from this. Other than postal workers only Netflix DVD/Blu-ray by mail subs will see this (web page or envelope). What am I overlooking?

So? The thread is what the thread is, not what you feel you should make it. That's commonly referred to as: Derailing.
This thread is about disc rental and the posts should be about disc rental, not about streaming. There are Netflix streaming threads for those kind of posts.
Not sure how that became so difficult?

We do stream, and quite a bit of it from Netflix, Amazon Prime and VUDU. But I can read and understand. This is a thread about disc on a forum about disc so the discussion should be about disc.

There should be forms available to you if you want to discuss streaming.
