I think you're missing the point. It's a fast, convenient, and affordable service.

UK eh?? You guys make Bentley's over there.... I suppose your driveway would be offended if you drove some Skoda Fabia Greenline on it huh?

I prefer a front-projection setup, so no "portable" here.

I have the streaming only plan... I haven't used it in over a month after catching up to 24. Their selection is absolutely terrible when it comes to popular content. I have no interest in watching old movies, B movies, docs, and other foreign stuff. So I mostly use Vudu and Xfinity on Demand for most of my movie watching, which is 2-3 movies per month.

I've been with Netflix for years, but I finally had enough of their ridiculous price hikes. Cancelled today. Hello Redbox & Vudu.

I think the new plan is a good one. I just dropped the streaming as I've wanted the option to do all along and saved myself 3$ a month.

I'm not sure what all the complaining is about. It seems to me Netflix is just adding options. True, you do have to pay a couple dollars more if one wants to continue multiple BDs and streaming together. But unless you are watching movies constantly, you're not losing much by dropping the streaming, or even dropping the discs if that's what you prefer. The only people I see this hurting are those that want to watch movies constantly all day. But seriously, if you're really watching that many movies every day, the couple dollars more a month for all that content is still a great value.

Didn't it used to be like $5 dollars a movie at the video store? Or $15-20 a month for a cable movie channel that plays the same couple movies over and over all month?

Could not have summed it up better myself. I, too, just dropped streaming as I only used it a few times. It was nice to have, but now I've saved a couple dollars/month on my 3-disc plan. In my humble opinion, Netflix has been and continues to be a great deal!

Hey guys I need help I never use Netflix and my brother in law let me use his account on my bluray player now does that charge him? And I tried watching legends of the fist And the pq is amazing is it 1080p or 720p? Now I feel like I'm wasting my money on blurays because the streaming looks exactly my bluray.

Zediva is something I might look into. If you buy a ten pack, it's just $1 a movie and you get to rent it for 2 weeks ... so it's better than redbox. They also get new releases one month before netflix and redbox.

For me, I've got about 80 discs in my immediate queue, with over 100 in the secondary...so waiting a month for new releases is no big deal at all, as I have a constant rotation! If I like the move that much, I'll buy it.
Thanks for the link though, just in case!

Your brother in law is charged a monthly fee and should be allowed a certain amount of devices. I think it is 6, but someone else might have the exact number? So it won't tack on an additional fee on top of that if that is what you are asking? While BD is great and I love it, I don't feel I need to own every single BD released. I use both streaming and BD rental via Netflix to see who makes the cut. The PQ depends on the source on most things. I've seen some things that look great and are near perfect in their presentation. And then I've seen other things that aren't so much. It all depends on the source. Hope that helps

So you've never "fed" it Netflix? If not, what is the basis for your statements about Netflix streaming quality?

Cable and satellite have nothing to do with your contention that DVD is superior to Netflix streaming quality.

I've already stated my equipment, so there's no need to delve into some kind of equipment pissing match. Needless to say, compression artifacts are no easier to spot on your plasma than they are on my setup.

I have seen Netflix but do not own it. Watched on a PS3 for a few days. (I was staying with friend on holiday) I was actually very curious to check the quality out.

Compression artifacts are very easy to spot on my tv. Don't speak for other people. I can see compression issues, if you cannot that is hardly my fault.
Some people just settle for mediocre, that is the way of this world now (increasingly so). You my friend sound like you fit into that category.

There are so many flaws in this, for lack of a better word..."argument"...it's not even worth the time to comment.

Yea, the love for streaming and the "convenience >>>>>>>>>>>> quality" simpletons are really aggravating. I'm happy about the price hike, although hopefully the people who believe this is an elaborate gambit by Netflix to push out BD/DVD altogether are wrong. Looking forward to more bandwidth caps etc.

Certainly streaming is great for certain things - older shows, random older B-movies that you're not interested in quite enough to care about PQ, etc. But it's really gross that the Netflix threads are full of people bragging about how they just watched Kick-Ass or Shutter Island, two films where the visuals are very important but are not even streaming in what Netflix calls "HD". On the other hand, there are definitely times when I'd choose the "HD" Netflix stream over regular DVD if the movie/show is not available on BD.

Do you know what his internet connection was like? Did you do a direct comparison between a DVD and an HD stream of the same content? I have and I posted my findings.

Quote:

I didn't speak for anyone else. I only made an objective statement. I have 20/20 vision. I've done a direct comparison of the same DVD content to Netflix streaming content on my calibrated 1080p front projector with 92" screen sitting ~10 feet away. I've been watching DVDs since 1998 and am all too familiar with what compression artifacts look like. It is simply impossible that compression artifacts are somehow more obvious on your plasma than they are to me on the above setup.

Quote:

I never once stated or even intimated that I can't see compression issues. I stated that the overall picture quality of Netflix HD streams tends to be better than DVD, compression artifacts included. I also stated that it's simply incorrect to generally state that DVD has less compression artifacts than Netflix streaming and provided the reasons to back it up.

Quote:

It's become increasingly clear that you're being willfully obtuse in this discussion. Choosing DVD quality over Netflix HD streaming quality is a perfect example of "settling for mediocre," my friend. I've stated repeatedly now that Netflix doesn't compare to Blu-ray quality and Blu-ray is my clear preference. That doesn't mean there is no place for streaming some content and that definitely doesn't mean that DVD is superior in quality to Netflix streaming.

He got the full bars and has a pretty fast connection. The stream did not stutter or pause so i imagine that is true.

By the way i do not watch dvd anymore so i am not settling for anything. Nice try though.

You watch Netflix on a projector? Ouch!!
