Regardless of the truth or falsehood of the rumor, what interests me is the mention of both Sony and Panasonic. As most of us know, Sony and Panasonic are the major patent holders in Blu-ray. It's also commonly supposed that Warner holds more patent IP in HD DVD than Blu-ray proportionally.

If... and that's a huge if... this rumor pans out, I wonder if the carrot used was a larger cut of the royalties pie, to either meet or beat what they'd earn under HD DVD?

Seems counter to what one might imagine, but it fits the bill of no money explicitly changing hands while still providing a strong incentive.

I heard Sony will make an offer of 300 trillion dollars to Uni-vision so they will start selling Telenovelas on blu-ray.

Could be true, the voices in my head are usually a pretty reliable source.

If that's true than hd-dvd only gets Paramount/Dreamworks movies. The worst of the major studios.
If true = Game over man there doomed.

None, Sony or anyone else will not need too. If this is correct the other 2 (or 3 pending on how you count them) will be bashing the the Blu door down to get in as soon as they work out how to get out of the HD-DVD maze.
The ramifications of this to HD-DVD will be the last few frames of all the old movies "The End"

I've been cautiously optimistic the whole time, well maybe the first hour was pure excitement but I had to calm down because I knew I was setting myself up for failure if this didn't happen...

Well this is really it for me. Too sleepy. Hopefully tomorrow we'll all come here and smoke a virtual cigar in celebration.

Bye all.
