You know, the more I think about this, the more I'm thinking about that eBay listing of Blades of Glory Blu-ray. Maybe they are not wanting something like that to happen? Oh well, I am about to leave for a while and I'll catch back up on the thread when I return tonight. |

We'll know tomorrow, but this would make some recent events make sense:
1) Warner's HD-DVD-loving exec exiting the company. 2) Warner's post-300 proclamation of great dual-format sales, only to be followed a couple months later by announcement of yet another TotalHD delay. 3) New Line releasing on BD first, with HD-DVD 'sometime' in 2008. 4) Warner representatives on-stage with the BDA at Lipzieg. 5) Rumors of BD manufacturing shortages (the Fox FF2 'scare' the other day) --preferential treatment for a new 'preferred partner'? 6) Warner admitting both sides are courting them with "crazy" amounts of cash. 7) Only "Twister" currently announced for 2008. makes sense. |

Shiat, I leave for a couple of minutes, and all hell breaks loose. Question OP, if this does indeed turn out to be true, will you reveal your true identity? If it doesn't I understand, as most here will be just a wee bit upset with you,...looking to banish you back to hell from whence you came...the power of Christ complels you <insert sprinkling of holy water>, the POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU! <insert more sprinkling>...

If warner goes exclusive but they dont want the bad rep that paramount had, they should release all of their previously scheduled titles on HD DUD as planned instead of pulling them.
In all honesty, I dont give a damn if they shaft the DUDers but im just thinking of their rep as a whole. I hope this is true. It would be the end of all this madness! |

with the 300 hd dvd promotion. anybody think that WB had hundreds of thousands of 300 on hd dvd and tosh basically bought them from them to package with hd dvd players. WB had to be very disappointed with 300 as they touted its PiP and crap forever, only to have it destroyed by blu-ray.

I would see little reason to support HD DVD until the end of the year. If this is true, which we have no reason to think it is, then it would be a complete deathblow to HD DVD. Anyone with an HD DVD owns it because they wanted to watch high def movies specifically, be it that they bought an add on or a stand alone. With Warner gone, HD DVD doesn't have enough support to satisfy this type of customer and they will go neutral.
If the reverse happened and all the support went HD DVD's way, you'd have millions of PS3 owners who may or may not care, disappointed because they wanted to pick up some specific movie, but they aren't willing to buy a player for it. In which case, should support the promise because you aren't going to get those sales on the other format. If what I said made any sense. People say how most people didn't buy their PS3s for blu-ray - which means the attach rate is lower, but it also means they aren't going to go out and buy hd dvd if the tides change. It's mind boggling why there are any hd dvd exclusive people at all, considering anyone with hd dvd got it specifically and completely for that... and they'd had the least actual movies since forever. |

Dear OP,
I really, really want to believe you...but I can't help but notice that your post is a painful reminder of all the rumor-posts I've read on internet forums that end up nothing more than wishful thinking. That said...the prospects of this rumor if it were to end up being true would make any Blu-fan salivate with anticipation... - Flawless, high bit-rate VC-1 encodes? - Lossless audio as standard? - Discs filled to the rim with extras? - A quick and painless (well...maybe not-so-painless ![]() So who wants some popcorn tomorrow ![]() I'm gonna have Photoshop on standby for purposes that involve sheer hilarity ![]() |

See something else stinks here. Why would W.B. announce that they are supporting Blu at the foothold of the shopping season. They wouldn't sell dick for Harry Potter, Oceans or any other HD-DUD title. That would be really stupid from a business stand point. They aren't about to undercut their own sales at the biggest shopping time of the year. I don't think we'll see an official announcement IF they do decide to go Blu until Q1 2008.

I'd like to take a moment and give the membership here at Blu-ray.com a pat on the back for being so very rational about this. It's a nice change from AVS, where every little rumor gets picked up and carried like it's written in a holy book.
To add some fuel to the fire: Penton-Man posted on 9/17/2007 in the Insiders thread (pointed out several pages back): Quote:
It's not evidence, but could this be another oblique Penton-Man reference? |

what makes perfect sense in SA0CDs post is WB honoring all hd dvd announcements. if it was a blu-ray fanboy hoax (it really isn't hd dvd guys) they would have said no more hd dvd from warner most likely. by saying warner will honor all prior commitment, it makes the choice simple for consumers this holiday, while hd dvd fanboys still buy warner hd dvd for xmas. plus, any "incentives" warner gets, they've just made out big time.
