At least it saves me spunking £100 on a trip to London to see it.
And Universal should at the very least do that as a lot of these venues without digital are science museums, like the one here in London. And given the subject matter, you know, it'd be a good move....

(as a matter of fact, I'm actually waiting to hear back from the IMAX team at the Science Museum here in London re:if they've heard anything on their end about all this)

Universal have not put out 70mm since Apollo 13's DNR have they?
Lucy didn't get real IMAX prints either

Yeah. And Lucy is a weird one, didn't have any AR expansions, and save for the initial IMAX release announcement and the French IMAX trailer there's been no mention of them using the cameras and for what scenes. Not even Besson and the DP talked about ever using IMAX for that film.

Fast Five and Jurassic Park got 15/70 prints (probably others, but those two jump out right to mind as I saw them in 15/70). Though after 2013, doing IMAX releases on film (and even new prints in general) dramatically slowed down.

I was rewarded with glorious pixels! I could see every individual blocks clearly and every horizontal line of the 2K projection.
During the 35mm portions, which had grain, the pixels appeared less obtrusive, but during the digitally shot IMAX sequences, which was really clean, I could see all the pixels.

My seat can be seen below.

This is truly Liemax of the first order if sitting on the fifth row from the screen we still can make out individual pixel blocks.
I enjoyed the dual 4K (non-IMAX) presentation of the film better! No pixels were visible and the screen was over 4 stories tall, while this digital IMAX is a little over two stories tall. Sound was good. However it wasn't a match for the Dolby Atmos I heard on the dual 4K screen.

The IMAX scenes were shot really well. The expansions were subtle because the aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and 1.89:1 are similar. Had it not been for the pixellation, the fifth row experience would have been great!
Been surprised that I've been able to see pixels on my recent IMAX 2K digital screenings of 2001 as well. Is this common? I'd assumed projector misalignment or even that the cause was the screen material. It was more noticeable on a different IMAX than the one I usually go to. Never had any issues with regular non-IMAX screenings or the 4K Dolby Cinema screenings. And by pixels, it's not compression artifacts, more like when you upscale a source and you notice some jagges/pixels around the edges of objects on screen.

Looks like IMAX is diluting its brand even further by copy-pasting THX's home cinema brand strategy: https://www.cnet.com/news/the-new-im...-home-theater/

"IMAX Enhanced" masters of movies and such, ideally played back on "IMAX Enhanced" certified equipment with a pre-calibrated "IMAX Mode" - exactly what THX did back in the DVD days especially.

Venting a little here but listening to this interview with IMAX's CEO where he's waxing all lyrical about how First Man is this year's Dunkirk in that people have to seek it out in the proper IMAX presentation...

If I hadn't already ended up going to Venice to see the film at the Biennale I'd have booked those tickets to Brussels in a heartbeat.

AMC Metreon for IMAX laser (or 70mm if they run it)

What kind of IMAX scenes is Venom confirmed to have? Luckily there's going to be an IMAX 2D and IMAX 3D showing.

Just expanded to 1.90:1. Not sure if it's the whole film or select scenes

IMAX in 'active discussions' with streaming services (Netfilx, Amazon and more) to show their movies in IMAX theaters

THIS is interesting.

Amazon does normal theatrical releases, so there should be no issue with them, but would be interesting if exhibitors changed on Netflix which got the IMAX release of Crouching Tiger 2 all but completely cut out of theaters.

With A List covering an IMAX ticket, I could certainly see myself choosing to see films like Mogwli (which is supposed to have a theatrical 3D component) or Roma (supposed to have great big screen filmmaking, plus Gravity is one of the best performing IMAX releases of all time) in that format if it was offered.

I just saw Thriller 3D in IMAX and it was amazing! I saw it at the Airbus IMAX so it wasn't the smaller digital IMAX but the true IMAX screen. I have to say that the film was cropped on the sides to make it fill the entire 1.44 AR screen. I usually don't like when there is cropping, but for some reason it didn't matter to me this time. I'm kind of curious to see this at a digital IMAX screen to see what the aspect ratio is.

I'm okay with them cropping it, since 1.33 and 1.43 titles are very close (similar how they tend to slightly crop 1.85 movies to 1.9 for digital IMAX), and it's great to see the massive 1.43 screen filled you don't get too often in IMAX laser (seen it just with Dunkirk and The Force Awakens, and never before at Lincoln Square except for trailers).

Though I bet they don't crop it for digital IMAX showings as that's a big difference in ratio, and I saw the trailer for it in IMAX before where they used pillarboxing on the sides.

I will let you know in a few days... Never heard about the main feature until like 2 weeks ago.
