I think this is fun as hell. I've allocated about 20% belief to this. About like what you have invested in Santa being real as you nod off Dec 24 @ 8 yrs. old.

If it turns out false I'm still opening presents.

this is immediate hope rather then delayed hope (if we buy they might go blu-ray exclusive or we might win the format war) this is saying they have chosen blu-ray we just need patience, and faith I'm still doing buy a thon tho!

Hmm, if this is true and has been suspected by some on the inside, coupled with paramount saying their deal with hd-dud is "indefinite", might they have known they couldn't stay hd-dud exclusive for long and recalled/destroyed their blu-ray discs out of good faith when accepting their big payout?

I believed in Santa until I went sneaking around my parents closet and found my presents to me from Santa!!! That was an interesting day. But, tomorrow would make up for that lousy day for sure. If it is announced.

The OP is certainly convincing in his arguments. If he is a fraud, bravo at being a damn good one. The timing would be impeccable as, in reality, if Warner were to go Blu exclusive it would pretty much have to be at the beginning of Q42007 or else there would be no point until Q42008.

Let's face it... If the war does not make a significant twist in Q42007, it will be at least Q12009 before a 'winner' can be established. What this means is _nobody_ makes money off HDM for at least another year. Manufacturers don't sell tons of units so they dont' make much. Studios don't sell tons of movies so they don't make much... etc. There is no money in HDM unless a format 'wins'.

Also, consider that if the format war continues it is very likely that the consumer will 'give up' and not want to even bother with HDM. That is a worse case scenario and means _everyone loses_. Retailers lose because consumers more and more turn to digital downloading (no more packaged media sales!). Manufacturers lose because no one will be buying standalone players anymore. Finally, studios lose because their royalties from pay-per-view and digital downloading pale in comparison to the profit margin on packaged media. The only people who win, if you want to even call it that, are the digital download folks. Namely, iTunes and Live at this time. A very scary scenario.

I refuse to believe that Warner does not know this. It would actually be utterly foolish for them to not pick a side in Q42007. The war needs to end now. Pricing is already such that soon manufacturers will have no profit left in players. The price war is over. It's time to start selling some units. If the war ends we are looking at _millions_ of new HDM consumers that will buy many back catalog titles as well as new releases helping to revive the stagnating DVD market (HDTV broadcasts can be thanked for this downturn... the technology has not kept up with the displays). Everyone will make a _lot_ of money through 2008 as consumers begin to upgrade. There is no reason to delay this any longer. Warner can end this war now and be recognized as heroes by consumers. It's win-win for them. They get all the money, benefits AND the glory if they make this move right now.

So, in summary, yep... The timing of this rumor is very well planned if it is a hoax as the post makes a lot of sense.

Why need Penton-Man to respond, and share his view on this. I am sure he could squash the rumor if it was not true!

The HD DVD fanboys know this is a hoax, as they have been posting in regards to this FUD post. I think the OP is having a laugh at the BD fans to see how much he can stir up... 25 pages and growing.

Just a thought.
