You know, as much as I want to believe this but I'm taking this with a grain of salt. However, if this does turn out to be true... then it's over for HD DVD. There's no way HD DVD will be able to go on with just Paramount/DW and Universal. Not only to mention that there's already a lot of rumours about Universal supporting Blu-ray within a year. Not only to mention that Spielberg obviously favour Blu-ray when he refused to let Paramount release his movies on HD DVD only when he personally approved the video transfer for Close Encounters which is Blu-ray only.

The reason they gave us on why HD DVD from New Line Cinema are merely delayed is due to the lack of region coding. New Line Cinema titles are distributed by many different distributors including Alliance Atlantis in Canada and around the world. Movies are still playing at the theatres in other countries when they are on DVD here in North America. It's a plausible explanation but it's clear New Line Cinema somewhere favour Blu-ray because of the region coding technology.

I'm just saying.

Here's to hoping this is true. If so, I for one will be looking for The Matrix on Blu-Ray (I want the movies real bad, but I refuse to buy any HD DVD titles at this point). I sure wouldn't mind the Austin Powers movies on Blu-Ray either.

I'm sure there are many other titles I would love to see on Blu-Ray, but the names escape me now.

QFT, but I'm keeping my hopes up. Of course, if they do announce this, prepare for a flood of protests demanding that Warner re-encode and re-release all of their previous releases.

The writing has been on the wall for a few weeks now. I am kinda surprised that if this comes to fruition it happened before the new year however.

question: If Spielberg isn't allowing the movies he directed to be released on HD DVD, why is Transformers being released on dud?

dude...heres the deal. a hack poster would have made a post and maybe a couple of more to respond to the initial skepticism...but really...would he give such good reasoning or leave you with an invitation to pm him? would he go through all the trouble to lead us astray about whats going to be announced tomorrow?
a hack poster would have let the pain linger for days and days...not 24 hours!
im putting my money on him. scary as it is...i'm doing it. all my chips are in. poo on me tomorrow if it doesn't happen.

i did think the region code excuse was strange on New Line's behalf. Let's hope this was a sign of blu-ray exclusivity.

Seems much more likely to be a hoax, doesn't it? Considering that the FUD has truly escalated in such presence and stature---a true sign of autumn and the forthcoming joyous season. If it's a wind-up, I think the enjoyment will be short-lived...which makes me think of HD-DVD for some reason...

I really don't want to get carried away and join the posting frenzy.

But I can't HELP it.

If it is true, Warner would have to explain why. Wouldn't they? And the potential answers amuse me.

"Well, we took THREE HUNDRED MILLION from Sony to do it---hahaHAHAHA, Paramount SUCKS!"

or,

"To get all you p*ssed-off BD-buying f*ckers off of the M*TH*RF*CKING CUSTOMER SERVICE LINES!!!! YOU BROKE THE WEBSITE! F*CK OFF!"
