Like I said before the panic on the DUD side is the most entertaining. You know they are sweating bullets. Fun thread to view and the excitment it has generated inside and outside of this forum.

This thread is off the scale.
The unintentional comedy scale that is. ![]() It deserves an 11. ![]() |

If DVD sales were totally in the toilet and they NEEDED a new product for the home video market in order to get that revenue stream back, then I would say it is possible, and likely. Currently DVD sales are still very strong even if they are off the 8-10% dollar sales that I have been hearing.
Of course, WB may have done some homework and had their "forecasters" predict where the DVD market would be next year. If the market for DVD looks really bad next year, then WB would want the hi-def format war to end asap. Getting all the fence-sitters to jump onto one format during the '07 holidays would jump-start the "hi-def on disc" market and their home video revenue stream. This could not be accomplished by announcing exclusivity to HD-DVD. They know this. Made-up press announcement from WB: "As many of you know there are two hi-def disc formats out there right now: HD-DVD and Blu-ray. We have supported both formats since they hit the market. We supported both formats because they each have something to offer to the consumer. Each format has it's strengths AND it's weaknesses. But, we, as a company, need to look toward the future. Where will the hi-def market be in 1 year? 5 years? What will HD-DVD and Blu-ray as technologies have to offer in that same time-frame? As difficult as this decision has been for us, because we do love both formats, we are going to have to go in one direction. Our decision to back one format exclusively is not a choice we thought we would have to make. In the past we have stated that we thought both formats could survive and thrive. Now, we simply don't think that's possible. Having two formats has caused a great deal of confusion at the consumer level. Our research has shown that most of the salespeople at the B&M level do not even know the differences in the formats. Most do not even know which studio supports which format. This is creating a great deal of confusion in the consumer sector and we have found that most consumers are not willing to buy into a format that may fail. Does anyone here remember Betamax? One format equals no confusion. No confusion will jump-start this market that all of us here today, love. So, again we have to ask ouselves: Where will the formats be in 5 years? Where will the actual technology be in 5 years? The answers to these questions left us with one clear winner. We have chosen Blu-ray." The End. ![]() |

My two cents...
I think this has been a lot of fun even if it isn't true - so well done if it is a hoax, and partytime if it is true! I think we need to note what Penton said - my interpretation of his posts are that the idea of Warner going Blu exclusive is something that has been talked about and negotiated, but don't count on it being TODAY. The original poster might have some legitimate insider information, but even if he does the announcement could be delayed days or even weeks! |

I didn't lose any sleep over this. I have plenty of important things to lose sleep over. Rumors don't count as important. I will be glad when time is up, and we see that this so-and-so is a lying troll. Then hopefully the moderators will ban him (or her) and delete this thread.

Well, I think I'll just have to go home and play Warhawk till 17:00 (UK time).
I have come to conclusions listed below. 1. Its a hoax and the bloke is having a laugh, to which we are all fools and just getting our hopes up. 2. Its true and then we can dance all night 3. WB go HD-DVD and its all to finish our hopes off. BUT only an HD-DVD supporter would sink that low I think if there wasn't any truth to it, the mods would have locked this topic ages ago, to keep from spam and further speculation, and knock us back into the ground. |
