The problem with HDR10+ is it's kind of late to the game. DV already has a ton of content (Apple TV has hundreds of titles and UHD discs are catching up) and the hardware is already out in the wild. I'm not upgrading all my gear again just to get HDR10+ unless it's a firmware update for the stuff I already have and that's doubtful. And if I had to choose between a TV with DV or one with HDR10+ I'd take the DV because of the aforementioned reasons.

Yeah... HDR10+ is not a format war, though. It's like Dolby TrueHD was. It got totally shut out the market share expect a couple of studios invested in putting it on some of their discs, not all even. But not universally playable on all Blu-ray tech, similarly! ... Sometimes early adopter players/AVR only decoded or bitstreamed LPCM and lossy. So to act like it's not analogous would be disingenuous. To me, HDR10+ is UHD's Dolby TrueHD. It will be sparsely seen but not "irrelevant" |

Everytime this thread pops back up, i get my hopes up that heats back for more. but alas, i think even he realized that 10+ lost the battle before it even entered the ring. Last i heard its still basically an amazon, lets call it exclusive, format....

Not really, DV was there from the start in terms of HDR in and of itself (Dolby created PQ, remember) and Dolby Cinema EDR pre-dated UHD HDR as far as I know. It was getting it out there into devices and software in the home that was more challenging (though DV streams have been around for a good couple of years already) because it was a proprietary extension that needed paying for, and the dual-layer base + enhancement implementation that's a mandatory requirement for DV on UHD Blu added a great deal of complication.

Heat was banned, sadly. It would have been nice seeing him react to the HDR10+ meltdown, but alas, we shall never know.

Yeah, when this was announced Warners said that they were going to add it to their existing HDR catalogue and there's no way no how they're going to re-release their entire catalogue of UHD discs, whereas appending HDR10+ to a stream is just appending the metadata to the existing mezzanine files.
