Dolby Vision is considered the superior dynamic metadata format from any and all impartial sources...so no LG is not at fault here, they are pushing the best HDR format...and they have Active HDR built into their displays which is a form of HDR10+...I can't see how anyone can fault LG

Sony won’t adopt HDR10+ because of their pride, Samsung won’t adopt DV because of their pride. Stupid, really.

LG are not adopting HDR 10+ due to generosity?

What fanboy? I’m stating facts. I don’t know about LG so I don’t comment on that.

PS: Oppo and Pioneer also support all HDR formats.

Oppo don't do anything anymore.
Sony like LG only support one format for now and that format is Dolby Vision.
You cannot call Sony out when LG started the format war on their own.

You really looooove taking my posts out of context did you? I listed the brands that cover all bases. Did I mention anywhere at all that Oppo is only covering everything only presently?

FACT: Oppo, Panasonic, Pioneer cover all the bases
FACT: Sony reps (multiple, not just one) at various tradeshows stated they don’t do HDR10+ because it’s a competitor’s format
FACT: Samsung reps (also multiple) at various tradeshows stated they don’t do DV because DV is a competing format and they don’t want to pay license when they have their own HDR format

Reps run Sony? Reps never know anything.
You are so angry.

I have a 2018 Panasonic Oled....should have waited another year as the GZ series has hdr10+ and Dolby vision..So im actually keen to see more 10+ titles.

I realise that Dolby is more widespread and in technical terms better but I agree with others who suggest offering both flavours on top of the hdr10 base layer as the best compromise.

Gotta say though that Fox catalogue....though few and far between have been putting out some excellent stuff....even without 10+.....I'd put them very close to Sony as top catalogue studio for 4k.

Has anyone had the chance to compare Alien in 10+ versus the base layer hdr10 yet?? Love to know some thoughts on that 👍🏻🍻

If only Fox would actually do more than one catalogue title a year, you know?

I never thought I'd be uttering these words but with the buyout then it's possible we might start seeing MORE Fox catalogue stuff on 4K disc, seeing as Disnee have seemingly undergone a conversion akin to religious fervour when it comes to UHD catalogue stuff. They might look to get several of Fox's biggest franchises out on disc in fairly short order with Disney+ looming, nothing in time for 2019 but 2020 could herald a Pixar-esque avalanche of Fox goodness from the mouse.

Default HDR10+ :: LG & Sony (why not?)

HDR10+ :: LG & Sony (why not?)

answer :: 'because they already do', apparently not 'well understood'

  • Samsung :: has 'their solution' (HDR10+)
  • Sony :: 'has their solution' (at the moment i cannot recall what it's called)
  • LG :: 'has their solution' (at the moment i cannot recall what it's called)
  • question :: why would LG & Sony use a 'Samsung solution'?
  • especially :: when they already have 'their own' respective solution?
  • simply :: each has their 'proprietary solution' so why 'support another manufacturer solution?
  • so :: while 'technically accurate' that neither LG or Sony support HDR10+ (Samsung) - each of these manufacturers has the same or similar solution to 'improved performance' of HDR10 (static metadata/dynamic metadata)

I’ve never heard that LG and Sony have their own solution.

They don't, in as far as talking about formats that are actually encoded to disc. They have their own in-house dynamic tone mapping in their display processing.

yes :: which does 'essentially' the same thing - which is why they do not see the point of supporting HDR10+ (Samsung)

note :: whom do you 'trust'? - (Samsung - or - LG & Sony) - '''end result is the same'''
