Have they announced they are dropping dv? My understanding was all thats happened is they now are backing10+ as well.

Seems like a good bet that they have, given that the WB release of Blade Runner 2049 doesn't have DV. Looks like they made the decision a couple of months ago.

Yes, the same way they dropped Atmos when they released the Harry Potter films in DTS:X

Or at least that's how someone in particular sees it

Place your bets now as to whether that'll be a physical disc re-release (no mention of the magic word, Blu-ray) or simply an updated streaming version...
Warner announced that they are creating a new UHD disc for Germany because they messed up the German audio on the original release. Maybe they use the chance to include HDR10+ but I doubt it.

This is the same. Pretty sure LaserDisc and DVD had the same things. Like movies first came out in stereo even though a surround mix existed or would in a re-release. Or the framing was not proper letterbox til years into DVD being a thing.
It's not about constant re-releases years down the line, those are a fact of home video life. And different regions are neither here nor there, people who import are increasingly in a minority especially in the US. Crucially people didn't need a different TV and player to be able to take advantage of those PQ remasters of yore but that's what we're potentially looking at here, it's them releasing a technologically differentiated version literally months after the first that could be treading on dangerous ground if they don't want to piss off the already installed user base.

BUT it appears that the Wondy re-release may just be a localised German one to correct whatever was wrong with their audio track, see above.

That’s not Wonder Woman, that’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Hard to get excited about this from a consumer standpoint. It's worse than DV, it's late to the party, it's fracturing the market. At best we'll have redundant formats in a few years like TrueHD/DTS-HD MA, at worst people will have to choose between getting their content in DV+HDR10 or HDR10++HDR10 instead of getting everything in a superior format.

What's the point of a system with dynamic metadata if it's just going to be more like a guideline and left up to the display manufacturer to interpret and implement anyway? How does that in any way ensure a consistent and proper viewing? The LG OLEDs already have active HDR and big surprise, it doesn't work. You have to tell them exactly what to do. Maybe that's what the certification is supposed to ensure, but I wouldn't bet on it.

It's not like it matters. It's just a demo. WB explicitly stated that their entire catalog of 75 UHD titles will be transformed to HDR10+. That obviously includes Wonder Woman as well. Their catalog titles will be streamed in HDR10+, and their new releases will have HDR10+ on disc.

Let us know when DV becomes capable of displaying pitch black letterbox bars.

I have only a couple DV discs but Spiderman Homecoming already has pitch black letterbox bars.

Yes, we know. The grey letterbox bars aren't present throughout the entire presentation, just at inopportune moments during dark scenes. Many DV discs have experienced this, including two of the most recent. Westworld didn't have any letterbox bars, but some reported elevated blacks.

The point very much stands.

Here is a guarantee that I want to put in writing, because I'm certain I will be right: by the end of 2018, there will be more HDR10+ discs than DV discs.

The momentum behind this format is unreal and unprecedented.

I'm all for a feature that'll improve the viewing experience but seriously, calm down FFS. In the end you'll be the most hurt, no matter the outcome.

Warner made HD-DVDs alongside Blu-rays and in the end the better more expensive format killed it. That won't happen here; every UHD disc will have HDR10 and will work on every UHD player. Both HDR formats can co-exist, this isn't a winner-takes-all scenario but 12-bit video is better than 10-bit video and the cost isn't passed down to the consumer; discs are the same MSRP and most of the best sub-$1K TVs have Dolby Vision.

I do not understand why you want a better, more technically capable and forward thinking format to fail, I really don't. Is it so your Samsung TV gets an extra feature without you needing to buy new equipment? That's the only reason I can imagine anyone would shill this hard for an inferior format and it's pathetic.

I don't want HDR10+ to fail at all. What gave you that impression?
