Lost in last week’s news shuffle of the Xbox One getting boned by the PS4, something to file under *it’s not how big it is, but how you use it*….go here -

https://developer.apple.com/wwdc/

Then click on ‘Learn More’.
Then, from the category ‘Download WWDC 2013 Session Videos’, click on “videos page”.

Sign in with your Apple ID (if you don't have a dev account they are FREE to register)
Then scroll down to ‘Painting the Future’.

Or for those amongst us who would enjoy a shorter, quicker path, just click on the following to get an overview of the little bugger and scroll the downward arrow to continue.…http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/?cid=ww...d-0aa89a43e04f

Or, listen as the dev geeks go wild upon its unveiling -

Before Peter objects to my one and only Apple plug of the year ^, related to a prior question (regarding ESPN) which you posted on another thread but this for 4K 2D, see… http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/6...ader?nocookies

And a heads-up to soccer fans , Brazil vs. Japan (Confed Cup) is coming on (ESPN) in less than 2 hr. time (in HD of course).

Considering a lot of studios aren't even putting the effort into releasing catalog titles on blu ray with new 2k scans, I don't think we have to worry about 4k anytime soon (if ever). I just don't see any reason for 4k to take off when we still continue to hear about how expensive it is to restore and release older films with new remasters from the film negatives. Sure, some of the newer stuff may get 4k releases, but if older titles can't show the benefit of the upgrade then it's going to be a tough sell. 4k may see the most benefit from sports, documentary's and over the air broadcasts.

Don’t underestimate the power of the marketing machine, for instance, just recently (be patient it may take time to load the link)….http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/n...-its-4k-hdtvs/

Combining this list…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=218262 with this list…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=220755 I think there are already many more 4K titles in the content provider infrastructure than there was when 3D Blu-ray launched….which you won’t need wearing special glasses to notice an upgrade (if you sit within 1.5 PH).

Sports is, and always has been, a powerful driver of consumer electronics sales…arguably thee primary driver (notice how many new TVs sell around the football playoffs and the Super Bowl in the U.S. each year) but in the case of 4K for sports, it gets complicated, something which I recently alluded to here… https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...th#post7766850

You see, sports like soccer; football, etc. crave depth of field shots as the gold standard to follow the action throughout the course of a match. If you’re a field camera operation, it is rather easy to get great shots with HD broadcast cameras because of their inherent nature (2/3” sensors); whereas 4K cameras are single sensor cameras…http://www.tvtechnology.com/article/...cameras/216279

Which provide more of a shallow depth of field which is more desirable for cinema (movies). For that important reason (as well as some others), right now, the jury is still out with regards to the applicability for a 4K end-to-end pipeline for sports seen at home.

However, keep in mind, I don’t believe it is totally impossible to get about the same depth of field shots with 4K cameras as you can get with traditional HD broadcast cameras, BUT it is a formidable challenge. Meaning, for field operators, it will require developing a skill (managing camera placement, and especially focus and exposure, in order to produce a similar depth of field to an HD broadcast camera.

It's the trickle down effect, 1080p releases will benefit from features mastered at 4k, also It's been said many times, it's not all about resolution, but better color depth as well.

Sir, given your credentials (505 Blu-rays) you are a collector by nature…show some fortitude to continuing to spend money.
