Incredible that you make someone like Robert Jordan seem nuanced by comparison when it comes to gender dynamics.

I have several counterpoints that would be huge spoilers, because apparently the parts that the TV series screamed in your face (like most men and women fearing or distrusting the Aes Sedai to some degree) weren't sufficient.

Hardly. One of the points of the series is that men and women failing to work together towards the common good is how societies break down.

You know that many movies and TV series (even docufictions at times) set in the middle ages or other time periods have often to take licenses on how the men dressed because otherwise they wouldn't look manly to a modern eye?
Gender roles and expectations shift all the time throughout history even if society remains basically patriarchal.

Also, I don't see how Rand is being a "simp" unless your idea of it is greatly distorted.

What my dear exasperated RP friend "Auditor55" doesn't yet understand is that like Rand , Luke Skywalker was also kinda 'simpy' ... until Return of the Jedi when his character had progressed and he was the man and whooped sum arse.... its called character progression

Give these characters a chance to progress my friend...it makes for better storytelling

No, he wasn't. Luke was just young trying to learn the force. While on the other hand Rand is weak for the flesh of a young woman(Egwene al'Vere) and will do anything for her.

I'm not talking about a wimp, I'm talking about Simp. That's a guy that would sell his soul to a woman, give up everything for her. Here this man Rand was revealed to be that guy, yet he told his girlfriend he would go to the tower and be her Ward (subservient male role). That's a Simp!!

Luke was just a kid trying to learn the force. Now, you can argue Anikan was somewhat of a simp for Padme. Padme was so good between the sheets she turned Anikan to the dark side. It wasn't hate that turned Anikan to the dark side, it was what Padme was doing to him in the bedroom. If you don't believe me go back and watch Attack of the Clones. Obe One warned Anikan that having sex would lead him to the dark side.

They had to write around the actor leaving immediately after shooting episode 6, probably season 2 will have to do some legwork to put him back on track.

SPOILERS UP TO EPISODE 7:

I'm mostly enjoying this show now, even though I think it's struggling to hit home a bit. I've not read the books and there is a large plot point the show is presenting that is confusing me; that being, the identity of the dragon reborn.

[Show spoiler]From what I feel like the show has told me, the dragon reborn will be capable of channelling. However, so far we have seen:

- Nynaeve channelling (in the fight with Logain)
- Egwene channelling (when escaping from the Whitecloaks)
- Perrin channelling (when escaping from the Whitecloaks)
- Rand channelling

so I'm a bit confused as to how this episode ended with the "revelation" of who the dragon reborn was. Am I missing something important here? Honestly, I have felt like the show has done a very poor job of explaining this universe so far.
