I guess I was missing the 3D in the "Best picture" part. It seems like this movie was also if not more meant for 3D along with its story telling. Believe me I really wanted to like this movie but I found it boring. It has great writing and a message to it however but it's not one that I intend to watch again. Good thing I bought the 3D combo pack for $15.00. Seeing how I don't see ourselves getting a 3D TV anytime soon, I'm already planning on selling it.

Just £1-97 and free carriage now at Amazon market seller:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0064YON8G

Worth picking up at 5-99 for the 3D image and a steal at this price.

Edit:
They sold out very quickly. The price is back to the standard 5-99 on Amazon as at Play.com.

Maybe Underworld and Resident Evil are more up your alley

Has anyone heard anything about this new transfer: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hugo-3D-Blu-ray/61529/

Also, does anyone find the Hugo blu ray 3D to be especially dim?

Why would they release a new transfer, the first one was perfect.

I shouldn't have said new transfer, excuse me. I hope that is the only difference. I remember a lot of complaints about ghosting on the initial release.

Default Mertin Scorcese.....

Following the commercial and artistic success of HUGO, Martin Scorsese said he wanted to do all of his future films in 3-D. GREAT!!!! Does anyone what he is working on now and if it will be in 3-D?

I like Scorsese, but did NOT like Hugo, I know I'm prob in the minority but tried watching twice and fell asleep, managed to stay awake the third time but it did not engage me at all.

I like him and own a lot of his movies but if the rest will be like Hugo, I'll pass.

Is it so hard to spell someone's name right?

Anyways, I don't believe this source is very credible. His next film "The Wolf of Wall Street" is not going to be in 3d.

It looks like the "commercial" success may had more of an influence than the artistic success... It made $185 million worldwide, and they've never confirmed the budget, but if it was a dime less than $150 including P&A, I'd be stunned.

Double checked IMDB - Budget was an estimated $170 million... IMDB does not include marketing. This film was a financial flop...

Some in Hollywood predict this action -
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sit...s/Scorsese.pdf

Finally moved Silence from the back to the front burner. Silence to be based upon this novel about a Jesuit missionary - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silence_(novel))

As a historical aside (and personal as Marty has a Catholic background), the Roman Catholic church just elected its first Jesuit pope….also another first being the fact that he is the first pope to take the name ‘Francis’, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi , whom I know best for this saying, which I quote…

“Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission -- to be of service to them wherever they require it.”

Scroll down to the miracle he performed with the wolf in a small town in Italy e.g. ‘Taming a Ferocious Wolf’ –

Avatar and Titanic are the 2 highest grossing films ever and they were both dung. Financial success has nothing to do with the quality of the film.

I agree, but the financial success (or lack thereof...) of Hugo will dictate wether he will shoot any more films in 3D.

Only 3 of this films have ever topped $100 million domestically... Heck, only 7 cracked $50 million...

His films are also not a big draw internationally. His four top film's WW grosses star Leo, and only three topped $200 million.

Given his overall lack of cranking out monster blockbusters, a studio will be very nervous about dumping extra money into one of his films for 3D.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate Scorcese as a film maker, but he's not a name that draws outside of the true film nerds. (And they're the only ones who showed up for Hugo...)

Personally Hugo is the only one of his films I love along with Cape Fear. Though there is no doubt he is a brilliant director, I find the characters he choses to focus his films on so repugnant I simply cannot enjoy most of his work.
