Without doubt. Kept Villa up in my opinion. Strong, eye for a goal, grafter. What's not to like? The only negative is the injury record. If he plays 25-30 games I would expect 12-15 goals.

We need more than 12-15 goals mate we are 49 goals down from last season. I do like him powerful striker but I don't think he suits our style of play we rarely lump the ball forward and our crosses into the box 9/10 are poor.

Just seen Spurs offering 12m for Ings mad money for a player with a month left on his contract

Oh, you mean for Liverpool? Not sure. You were never going to replace Suarez were you. The only player who would have been at that level is Sanchez and he went to Arsenal. Tough job to find a suitable striker. Also, I'm sure you know by now that Henderson will never be a Gerrard replacement. So obviously, a replacement is almost mission impossible.
On the subject of Midfielders, I would be breaking the bank for Pogba, an absolute powerhouse of a player.

Suarez is a level above Sanchez In my opinion but he's a quality player. Linked with Benteke between 20-30M according to reports I'd give 20m for him and maybe include Lambert in the deal.

I like Hendo and obviously will never be at Gerrards level. We wouldn't be able to afford Pogba I think only City Madrid Barca PSG could get him great player.

I don't think Rickie Lambert would be a bad buy for Sunderland him and Defoe up front would be decent.

We wouldn't want Lambert, trust me. We need to start thinking bigger than that. Big Dick has already stated that we need to invest to get into the top 10. I don't think lambert would cut it. Don't get me wrong, we don't have the funds to sign top, top players. A club of our size should be in for the likes of Charlie Austin or Benteke though. 44,000 average crowd, we need to start seeing where this money is going. No more loan deals, we need permanent signings and we need them asap.

Austin would be a good signing but can see QPR looking for 10-15M for him and he still has the knee problem so would Sunderland take a gamble on him.

Surely that Ricky Alverez deal with affect your budget for the coming season?

We are all in the dark about that deal to be honest. I read that there is an appearance clause in there somehow and he hasn't played for a while. I would be a bit gutted if we did have to pay that and fingers will be pointed at Congerton if it turns out to be true. We already blew 10 million on Rodwell and look how that turned out. We need true investment and to be honest David, it is a sore point that we are scrapping against relegation with such huge crowds every year. Look at Stoke, southampton and Swansea. We have much better support than all 3 yet we still can't move to the next level.

The Rodwell deal in my eyes was always going to be a tricky one so hard to keep him off the physio table. Sunderland should be aiming to do what Saints have done buy well and sell for big money. If Advocaat does stay which I think he will after what he showed after the Arsenal game he's fallen for the club Short must back him in transfer market. I hope Coates returns to liverpool never given a chance and he's a decent defender given a run of games but if he doesn't surely Sunderland would buy him I think he has a couple or a year to run on his deal.

We might put in a cheeky bid. Can't see us paying too much though. He had three superb games but he has looked all at sea at times as well. It's a risk but I get what you are saying. But here is potential there. He is a little slow but he has come on a ton with positional sense.

Rodwell was a suprise. That 10 million could have went towards a striker. On the plus side, we got Pantmillion on a bosman free and I rate him as the best keeper we have had in the last twenty years. (Including Sorenson, Craig Gordon, etc..)

I agree but he's improved massively in recent months I had him out the door couple months ago but he's turned his lpool career around. Still needs to improve his distribution and coming for crosses.

Yeah, he has at least shown he has got balls. I feel much safer with Pants in goal now though. He should have won player of year rather than runner up.

seb Larrson. Cattermole got 3rd spot.

O'shea was good for most of season. He let himself down in a few games but overall he has been ok. He was superb against Arsenal and rightly got MOM on Sky. We need young blood now though.
