Love or hate United, there's no disputing the impact that SAF has had on the domestic game.

I'll be at Pride Park tomorrow to see whether we sneak into the playoffs or not. If we do then it'll be either Cardiff or Fulham. Really hope it's the former, they're eminently beatable.

Enjoyed today - house to myself for most of the day so watched Stoke get relegated (), then all of Soccer Saturday, and finishing with NY Red Bulls tonking NYC.

Hope Arsene gets a great send off, he deserves it. Like SAF, he's had such a huge impact on football in this country. Tbh, between the two of them, they've changed the entire footballing landscape.

When I was growing up, all I heard about was the Busby Babes, and Shankley/Paisley's Liverpool sides. For my kids I guess it'll be SAF's class of '99 and The Invincibles.

I only heard this horrific news about Sir Alex Ferguson moments ago after reading the BBC News website. The first thing to say about Sir Alex Ferguson is that he is a true footballing legend. I hope that he will have a long & healthy retirement after he recovers from surgery of this nasty condition. A lot of my relatives, unlike myself, are long time Manchester United supporters from Ireland. I'm sure that they would be equally devastated when they heard about this news earlier tonight. Get well soon Sir Alex.

Well done to Arsenal for their 5-0 victory against Burnley. A great win for Arsene Wenger on his final home game.

A great result for Derby too against Barnsley to secure a playoff spot.

Best game at Pride Park for ages.

Barnsley were a potential banana skin which were swatted aside with near-contempt!

Beautiful day - proper shirt and shorts weather, a carpet of a pitch and a display to earn that final playoff berth.

Felt sorry for the Barnsley fans who never wavered throughout, even when they went 0-4 down, and showed the team genuine appreciation after the final whistle, even in the cruel circumstances. They were very classy and I hope they come straight back up.

Looks like Arsene might have been able to enjoy his final Emirates game too - looking forward to catching that one on MOTD later

Well they won’t be coming up as champions because we (SAFC) are in league one next year!

I would be extremely surprised if you didn't absolutely walk that league next year.

That being said, it took Leeds, Forest, Leicester, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd et al a good few seasons to bounce back.

Bizarrely, perhaps out of the three that went down, it might be Burton who have the best chance - they'll likely be able to keep the majority of their squad together, and as we've seen in the past month, they've suddenly discovered how to play together. Could be an interesting time down there next year!

New ownership has given us renewed hope and we can start rebuilding. I fully expect us to go up automatic but this is Sunderland after all. Drama follows us around.
