Steed I think it may be good you're going down because wouldn't it be nice for a change to attend matches where Sunderland are truly competitive and you can enjoy some wins.
It's never good to be going down Penton Man. I see your point though.

This team wil only be competitive if we manage to get rid of the vast majority and replace them with players with a heartbeat IMO. (Defoe and Pickford aside)

Absolutely and I think it will be more pleasurable to rebuild the infrastructure of the team and work your way back (enjoying winning along the way) than seemingly holding onto the cliff, year after year with your finger nails.

It's torture. It just means we have to go through the whole process again but it may take many years as the championship is a hard league. If Moyes stays, I can't see us going up. The thought of championship football for a few years is devastating to be honest.

Thanks Ocean, hopefully I can enjoy MOTD this week.
Konta ended up winning the Miami Open last weekend.

Used to have a soft spot for Jennifer Capriati.

Not enjoying tonight's game against Watford.

Just out of interest, what has been the longest amount of extra time at the end of one half of a football match?

I remember Arsenal V West Ham being nearly 13 minutes a few years back. It may well have been bettered by now though.

There was also a Chsmpionship game that lasted 23 extra minutes but I can't remember who was involved. I think it was because of a leg break.

Commiserations by the way mate, tough game tonight.

Sorry Gvortex

Good Result Ocean.

Good luck tomorrow Tob and Penton.
Unless something disastrous happens, we should hold onto 8th place at the end of the season. We got two good results against Arsenal and Manchester United. Stoke, who were in 9th place, lost tonight along with us. They're now in 10th place, swapping places with Watford, who are now in 9th place.

It isn't very often we get something out of a trip to the south-east of the UK, and tonight was no exception. It stuck in my mind what happened during the last transfer window, when Watford played hardball with us when we were trying to buy one of their players. In the end the Watford player went to a Chinese club. Our next game is against Southampton, on Saturday.

Hopefully Fat Sam's bruisers will have softened up the Saints for you, Ocean. I can see Palace nicking a 1-0 win at St Mary's tonight, but a point would be ace. We're down to our last two recognised centre backs though so all is not so rosy behind the scenes.

Then there's Arsenal on Monday on the telly. With all due respect to tob and Mr P, I hope we FINALLY get a win against cheery old Arsene's team in our current EPL stint before he goes, having garnered the princely sum of 1 ****ing point against them in the previous three seasons. COYP!

Looks like you're gone Steedy but the Mackems will not be forgotten, you make sure to keep right on posting in here like nothing's happened (which I see tob has already said while I've been composing this post). I know who my second team will be next season! Bloody Brighton look like they've done it though, those clashes with Palace are going to be mighty fiery next season.

Hahahaaaa, so much for Palace nicking a 1-0 win at Saints! We got the 1-0 part, but the 3 goals in reply didn't help. Signs of old frailties too, being hit at the end of each half. Hull battered Boro, they're only a point behind us now! Got some mightily tough fixtures coming up too with Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool then Tottenham. Ouch.

It may well be the case that we get the points we need from the Burnley and Hull games, which come inbetween visits to Manchesters City and Utd (the latter on the last day of the season). Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

What Tob and Geoff said. They couldn't have put it better myself. I'm sure the moderators would edit the thread title so that we could discuss the Championship, Leagues 1 and 2, the Vanarama league etc. as well as the Premiership.

I enjoyed Gillette Soccer Special more tonight than I did last night. The defeat by Watford was disappointing (they're one of our bogey sides, but we'll get our own back at them eventually). No game is easy in the Premiership, they're all hard, but Saturday's game against Southampton will be tricky, especially as Southampton will be confident after tonight's win.

Going back to discussing the Championship, there was a bizarre incident during the Newcastle game revolving around a penalty. Did the referee give an explanation for his decision? If I remember correctly, the Newcastle player kicked the ball into the net, but the referee disallowed the goal. The word 'encroaching' was mentioned a few times when Jeff and the pundits were discussing the bizarre incident.

Having to fast forward through tonight's bonus mid-week Match of the Day, as I'm trying (but won't succeed) to fit in tonight's new 24: Legacy and Blue Bloods, along with an episode of Mission: Impossible (started watching the original TV series on DVD again, and have almost finished watching the first season), and eventually (once the second season Region 2 UK DVD set comes down in price) will watch the late 80's short-lived revival.

Enjoying the banter on tonight's Match of the Day between presenter Dan Walker and pundits Danny Murphy and Ian Wright.

Just a blip Geoff. A game in hand, 3 points clear and a superior goal difference. Some tough games but you will get there. Us and Boro are not catching you so just worry about Swansea and Hull. Ironically, we play Swansea, last home game of season.
