Thats really whats going on here. But, they did make a movie about a focking Board game from the 70's called Battleship with Diarhianna in it so that pretty much kills any cred they may have had left.

Duncan Jones will direct a World of Warcraft movie starring Johnny Depp

The long awaited World of Warcraft movie is finally moving forward, and with a director that is both exciting and surprising. Duncan Jones of Moon and Source Code fame has snapped up the directing gig. Originally helmed by Sam Raimi, the project was dropped by the Evil Dead director so he could concentrate on his Oz movie. Honestly, we thought this project was long dead, but Jones and Warner Bros. are planning on starting production on the movie adaptation of the role-playing game in 2013!
Jones is a surprising choice, but it makes sense. The director is a rabid gamer, plus now is the time for Jones to prove himself with a big budget production. The trades are reporting that the budget for this movie is more than three times larger than Source Code. We're excited, and hopefully there's enough time for Jones to dust off the old script.

In response to the news, Jones took to twitter,posting, "So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game. Ive always said its possible. Got to DO it now! ;."

But wait, the crazy news doesn't stop there! According to Tracking Boards, the studio allegedly wants Johnny Depp to star in the movie. But let's be honest, I'm sure the studio wants Depp to star in every movie they make, so take that with a giant grain of salt.

Legendary Pictures' Warcraft to Hit Theaters December 18, 2015

Legendary Pictures’ Warcraft, based upon Blizzard Entertainment's globally-renowned universe, will be released by Universal Pictures on Friday, December 18, 2015.

Warcraft marks the first film dated under the recently formed partnership between Universal and Legendary.

The film, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict, will be directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and is written by Charles Leavitt and Duncan Jones. The producers are Charles Roven and Alex Gartner for Atlas Entertainment and Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni for Legendary. Stuart Fenegan, Jillian Share and Brent O’Connor will serve as executive producers. Blizzard's Chris Metzen will co-produce.

It looks as if this project is actually going somewhere. I'm surprised we haven't seen a movie sooner, especially since WoW's subscription rate is dropping rather steadily these days. At any rate this is exciting news and I definitely have high hopes for this movie.

I wonder if this will follow the story of the first invasion of Azeroth by the Orcs (thus limiting the conflict to Orcs and Humans), or if to anchor this in the latest games (WoW and Hearthstone) they will set it in the Arthas storyline (Warcraft III)...

Or, perhaps, it'll only be "inspired" by the actual storyline of the games and vary considerably, to make it a separate product not bound by the games...

I'd love a movie adaptation of the Warcraft III storyline.

The main events in both Reign Of Chaos & The Frozen Throne.

Either way though I'm psyched due the fact that an actual Warcraft movie is getting made.

The film portrays the origin story of the initial encounters between the humans and the orcs, with an emphasis upon both the Alliance's and Horde's sides of their conflict. Featuring characters such as Durotan and Lothar, the film will take place in a variety of locations established in the video game series.
