I dunno, I just get mad seeing this happen, because it provides fuel to the fire of Paramount leaving bluray for "production" reasons.
Of COURSE the changed for production reasons.... by publishing only red, they could cut their total HDM units required by at least 70%

Thanks, that is what I like to hear.

If Sony "took one for the team" to make sure that WB, Fox and Disney had adequate time to replicate their titles and keep them happy then Im all for it. Honestly for me its not like these titles were on my must buy list, but still I hate seeing evidence that Paramount could be correct.

Understand this…….although there are many studios that are either Blu-ray exclusive or publish in the Blu-ray format, they still have to compete against each other for the consumers' dollar during the 4th and 5th quarters, especially.

Believe me, it’s every man for himself.
Don’t let anyone float the *production line* theory on you......that's not where the bottleneck is.

Replication has nothing to do with it.
The dang things aren’t even completely encoded/authored yet.

Dammit, I tried to edit my post before you saw it. I was only asking because I knew some lovers of a different format were going to bring it up and I wanted it clarified before the FUD spread.

Thanks!

I know this Penton, but lets say Fox gets unhappy that they cant produce their movies on time, as does Disney, as does WB and one of them decides to go neutral or exclusive to the HD-DVD, since they claim to not have production problems, which is probably false. Until HD-DVD is dead and gone there has to be some degree of working together.

BTW, what is the bottleneck? if you can tell us that is.

I did a search, but I got several answers to my question so I'd like to have it confirmed. Will the Ps3 get a profile update to either 1.1 or live? I've read that it can be done, but what I want to know is has anything been announced about this that I may have missed? I apologize if this is a frequently asked question, but I was hoping maybe Paidgeek knew something and told you guys. There are a lot of pages on this thread to read...I'm very far behind. Thanks.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I'll even like the PiP commentary, but it's worth it just to not have the reds say stuff.

I see - HDD only mentioned 2 titles, not including that one.

I am sure that Sony has good reasons for doing this and I suspect that 2008 will be great.

As it stands, HD DVD barely has as many releases as BD exclusive releases, so BD is still well ahead for the rest of 2007.

All things going to plan BD will have filled the title gap caused by Paramount's defection by the end of this month.

Thank you for the quick answer. Does this mean that Sony are done announcing titles for this year? Or is there any chance for some more titles in december than Superbad?

Oh well, as long as close encounters and superbad remains I'll be happy

For HD DVD production problems I would look at Transformers, one of the biggest HDM releases of the year and they couldn't get the discs out quick enough.
Is it a distribution issue then? The Fox titles from the last two weeks didn't hit my local Hastings until a few days after their release, and from reading around the net, it appears that wasn't the only chain affected. I'm STILL waiting for my Twilight Zone Blu-Ray. I'm curious if the Sony cancellations were made to clear up the pipeline to ensure proper distribution of the A list titles.

Speaking of which, here's another vote to use the extra time to get The Mask Of Zorro ready to go along with its delayed turd sequel.

I have yet to hear about any problems getting Transformers since I saw some at my local Best Buy.

There were supposed to be a lot more at your local Best Buy. Seems not as many people are buying it as planned though so it's not such a big deal.

The question concerning the Sony delays has been answered already above: It's not production. It's not distribution. It's simply a few too many titles for encode houses to put out without compromising quality it seems. There is only so much a set amount of people can do.

One could argue that maybe it's time to hire more encode/authoring folks, but, that's about it.

Is there any reason Sony would upgrade to 1.1 instead of 2.0? Looks like PS3 meets the requirements for the latter... or is 2.0 compliance going to be later than 1.1?

It already is 2.0 compliant. The only thing that differs 1.1 and 2.0 is the size of your storage device (1GB minimum, check) and an internet connectivity (check)

Are you a Blu-ray insider? If not why are you repeatedly posting in this thread? No need to answer in this thread by the way.
