Apologies - read this thread pretty religiously - did somebody confirm that T3 is not using true 1.1 profile PiP?

OK, understood.
Now.........I don't suppose you fancy picking a US PS3 up for me and making a trip to Dublin do you?? I'll make it worth your while with some delicious pints of Guinness

I have one more question also;
I have the Seinfeld Complete Series boxset pre-ordered (managed to sell my Season 1-8 boxsets leaving me only about $40 short).
Are there any plans to release Seinfeld on Blu-ray? If I knew it was coming in the next 6 months or so I'd hold off.
Actually, would Seinfeld benefit much from Blu-ray??

Default TrueHD 5.1 on "20 Million Miles to Earth"?

Paidgeek,

Although the info we had previously indicated a DD track (possibly mono?), the back cover art says TrueHD 5.1:

http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-cover.php?did=3948

Could you confirm which it is? Thanks in advance.

"Daniel Silverberg, VP of HD media development for the studio, noted that the T3 Blu-ray is not Blu-ray profile 1.1, the mandated programming required for all Blu-ray players introduced after Oct. 31. "

Hey whipper or anyone, who is the “insider” that Richard Casey is referring to in his OP that made critical comments about his work in the post that I linked previously (on AVS)……….as I don’t follow that forum anymore.

Well Josh, I’m so confused about this issue now that I don’t know what to say until I get a chance to pick up both editions and compare the branch points myself.
In the meantime, I imagine I should take with a grain of salt what a WB executive tells me when he is holding a glass of wine in one hand and a pair of barbecue tongs in the other.

If the HD DVD version has stops that are as long as 5 sec…..that’s hardly seamless…….but if the Blu-ray editions have a jump of 3 sec., even though that’s 40% faster, it is still pushing the definition of the word *seamless*.

This is beginning to get too techie intensive for me. Maybe paidgeek can get one of the Sony people in the trenches who have hands-on work doing this stuff to comment here on our forum for further enlightenment.

INSIDERS PLEASE HELP!!

Can any of you please ask around about any of the newer PS3 models and their hardware.

I know the 60GB model will not support bitstream of DTS-MA and TrueHD.

Will either the 80GB or 40GB model have a chipset capable of this?

Can someone PLEASE address this as I would really be interested in picking up the 40GB model and eBaying my 60GB if the chipset has changed.

Thank you in advance.

From the screenshots I saw, it branches you to a still menu, and then back out, and that would definately cause the delay

Had they done it as some kind of popup while the movie was playing, I imagine seek times would be greatly reduced

We can appreciate sharp wit but we hope you bring the other thing characteristic of this stereotype. That is, people from NY, also appreciate straight answers back and don’t get unhappy and act sensitive in return.

Now, I will say my piece on lossless and I am not going to argue the point. This is my opinion based on real experience and I am not asking anyone to agree with me.

Like any "process" ... Lossless is a packing scheme and it is “processing” and “compressing” the signal … even if it is a more efficient way to “pack” the bits … it is a CODEC and a process just the same. All Lossless CODECS use a form of compression to save space....albeit a lossless compression … it is a “process” just the same and engineering plays a role in how well it does its job. To deny that one for of engineering could be better than another form of engineering is simply not a wise statement to make in my opinion.
But this doesn’t tell us a thing Rich. So what that there is a “process?” There is a process to read the PCM samples from BD discs. Does that make it sound bad? There is a process for separating those bits from video. Does that make it sound bad? There are processes which we worry about, and there are those which we do not.

Can you please, before all of us get too old to type , your one word answer to this question? That is, if I make a BD disc with PCM and TrueHD tacks on it that are identical in bit depth and sampling rate and play them on the same player, do they or do they not sound different? For now, we don’t need a long explanation. Just “yes it sounds different” or “no it does not” would get this thread back on track nicely .

And to entice you to do as I ask above, I will happily engage in your lossless versus lossy topic after we get this answer. I assume you think you have the upper hand there so surely this will convince you to give us the one word answer….

Does any insider know when the first BD movie with 1.1 or 2.0 content will be released? Next spring or summer, when there might be more owners of 1.1 BD players?

So far T3 has been officially debunked as 1.1, and I assume the rest of the Warner/New Line 2007 PIP titles are the same.

can anyone help pass request for the ps3 to support disc resume, ie. after power cycle able to resume the previous discs point ?
i know there is resume function if you just stopped playing and resume again, but after ejecting disc or switching off, the resume is not available.

i sometime watch my disc over a few days, and have to keep fast forward and trying to remember where i stopped.

If you make a note of what the time code is you can jump to that time code.

I forget the details - I think it is the 'goto' function.

I believe, even if this was created using "pop-up" menus, there would be about the same delay. Logically, the only seamless part of the feature would be the complete un-cut version that you would watch.

When you make a choice, the player still has to find the footage you are going to watch. Too make this truely seemless, I think you would need enough memory on the player to essentially pre-load both sequence options. Even then, there is still access time.

The branching footage travels along with the video you're watching, so instead of seeking for the still, then seeking back to the video, it just moves in the stream.

Question just answered at DVD Times: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=66154 I quote:

"In addition to the pristine, digitally-restored black & white original, the classic film will now be available in a newly colourized version supervised by Harryhausen himself.

In a recent interview, Harryhausen said “I am thrilled that this film is finally being seen in colour. I had wanted to do the film in colour in the 1950s, but our budget was not large enough to accommodate that luxury. Now, thanks to the marvellous advances made in the colourization process by San Diego’s Legend Films and others, audiences will be able to see 20 Million Miles to Earth as I originally intended.”

Coded for all regions (A, B and C) the disc features both the original B&W and new Colour versions of the film while extras are presented in standard definition."

Thanks, Sony, for giving us an SF classic the way it ought to be presented.
