We get lots of sales figures in our office everyday and I can tell you now that the 190,000 number makes absolutely no sense.

I have had an on going discussion with the staff over here on how best to get the real numbers out, but since they are out now it really makes no difference.
I take this as tacit confirmation that the numbers you are seeing internally are at least nominally consistent with what Home Media Retailing and Nielsen/VideoScan are reporting, neither of whom are even in the same ballpark as Paramount's lofty claims.

I think I read somewhere one this forum that the main difference between spec 1.1 & 2.0, is that 2.0 requires at least 1 gig storage space(could be off on the number there.), so, assuming that is correct, as long as the Ps3 is made 1.1 compliant by firmware, it SHOULD be 2.0 compliant as well.

Paidgeek, Did you have any info on this?

Thanks

I'm not an insider but I'm 99% sure they aren't allowed to talk so I'll break the rules and answer this one. PS3 is going to get a firmware upgrade very soon to get to 1.1 spec. However, nobody affiliated with Sony is allowed to publicly acknowledge it since it can hurt dedicated player sales. (And this is a delicate political issue in BDA since other hardware manufacturers are happy that PS3 is helping them win the war but unhappy that their own dedicated players are being beaten so badly by PS3 in sales.)

Paidgeek has already told us several times all he can. Now let's leave him alone.

thanks

I suspect he may be referring instead to the Nikki Finke story.

Maybe, maybe not, i believe the requirement states flash memory. The PS3 only has 512 and is not whole is 256 and 256 different types. And it would need it for regular operation.

P.S. 2.0 also adds internet connectivity, but just to be clear, 2.0 ir not mandatory, 1.1 will be at the end of this month for any new model player released after the 30th.

Take that back the 1 gig could be a hard drive too, or usb thumb drive.

Paidgeek,

Have SPE announced all their titles for December yet? There are som great titles coming indeed but it feels like a slowdown in releases compared to other months.

And does anyone know what happened to A Bridge to Far, Battle for Britain, Ronin and Red Dawn? Seems there have been more cancelled/delayed titles in Q4 than new announcement lately.

Thank you insiders for all the great input and support here.

Do you think WB will say anything about this publicly? Their reaction would be quite interesting.

I believe the requirement states "persistent" memory. That one can be checked off.

I'd love to know about Battle for Britain, too. I was really looking forward to that one.

And, of course, any info on why the change at the top at Warner, and is it as good for Blu-ray as it appears at first glance?

Harry Potter 5 will do the "talking" for them. That shouldn't have a problem selling 150-200M units across both formats (possibly those figures just on the Blu side alone).

I knew it. I own the PS but I wish that the stand-alones were doing better. MORE BOGO.

People in most other countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg) seem to prefer subtitles .... but not our German friends.
don't know about the rest but in France it is definitely dubbed, they even dub French Canadian movies because they prefer their own accent. Not to mention that many Hollywood studios make different dubs for France and Quebec

PS Paidgeek we all appreciate the extra care you guys are taking with other languages. I have always said that was one of the benefits of BD and I am happy there are people like you in studios that are taking advantage of it.

paidgeek: I know that you are not in the PS3 group, but do you know if Sony is working on an IR/BT accessory for the PS3? If you don't know and you have contacts can you ask them to look into it? I am sure there is an extremely large market out there for such a thing.

Do you know about the "Playstation 3 Blu Wave Remote" that Amazon lists for $16.99? It has an IR thing that goes in one of the USB slots and then you can program a universal remote. I don't think the power button works and the eject might not either, but other things do from what I've heard.

It seems like sony refuses to map the PS button to something else so you can power down the PS3 via IR Remote, forcing you to get the bluetooth remote to get the full functionality. I have the BD remote also, but i would love a backlit one more, and would also like sony to remap the ps button for the IR just so people can use their universal expensive remotes and help put more of the units in the living rooms of people. For some people, that is a huge problem.

Well independent analysts have already commented about that (which is indeed their belief), so you can read their views for further detail.

I do think that MS (as an advocate for HD DVD) is extremely worried that BD+ might gain more widespread implementation and become a more effective solution for all studios to protect their content. Because like it or not, that is the #1 thing that studios care about, i.e. – protecting their movies.

And I also believe that MS (as an advocate for HD DVD) is worried that a significant proportion of people might actually be able to appreciate the difference between lossless vs DD+ audio on high-def discs in their home theaters.

Because………. people tell me that recently those two issues alone have compelled a *retired* MS employee to become *unretired* on the internet forums.

Now excuse me while I *retire* for awhile as I’ve got the mother of all hangovers today.

I don't know that he has so much unretired, as he is just being an ass on his own time now instead of being a Microsoft sponsored ass as he was before.
