I can understand why Sony would lower the price of the S300. With the Panasonic 1.1 player at the same price, I think they would have lost a lot of sales.

My question to any insider that may know is:

The Sony S300 has a chip that should be capable of TrueHD audio, the S1 had a firmware upgrade to take advantage of this feature. Any signs that a firmware upgrade for the S300 is in the works that would alow this?

Exclamation "Sorry Japanese Language Only" Scrolling on Top of My PS3 After 2.0 Update

Paidgeek,

I have two PS3s, a USA PS3 and a Japanese PS3. Today I updated both of them to firmware 2.0.

The USA one is fine, but now the JP one has a scrolling message at the top of the screen that won't go away:

"Sorry Japanese Language Only. Please Go Into System Settings and Change the Language to Japanese"

I love my PS3s but this is really going to be a problem and annoyance.

Sony made clear that JP and USA would be the same region for PS3 well in advance. The JP PS3 was advertised as having an English mode. With these assurances I imported a Japanese PS3 before they were released in the USA, and it has worked perfectly with all USA Blu-ray disks up until now. If you guys try to lock out Japanese PS3s from English I think many people (including me) are going to be very, very upset.

Anyone have any more information on these changes?

I sincerely hope in the future that I will be able to continue to use both my PS3s (the one from USA and the one from JP) to enjoy all Blu-ray content in English, as advertised.

Just an update:

Solved the problem with some help and got the message to go away, however now I realize that the uncharted Drake's Fortune demo is region locked and won't play on my Japanese PS3.

So now I have to re-download the demo onto my USA PS3 to play it.

I realize that as an early adopter that there are sometimes snags with technology, but I really hope Sony will keep its commitment to Japan and the USA being in the same region code.

This is hugely important to some early adopters like myself.

It's probably way too early to be asking for this, but could we get these clips on the Playstation Network when they become available?

I know this idea was posted on another thread, but I think it is quite important, especially for the HD-DVD side to get to it first, so I wanted to put it out for all insiders in hopes that one or more might be able to make things happen.

Someone mentioned that:
"All the BD camp needs to do is have Oprah add it to her "must buy" list (or whatever it is she sells) or give a PS3 to each member of her studio audience (with a mention that it is for playing Blu-Rays) and the war would be over. All you need is Oprah's endorsment and chicks will be wet with anticipation over their PS3 purchase. She could even have an actor in the studio who's just about to have a movie release on Blu-Ray just yucking it up over Blu-ray.
I'm telling you, Oprah is the key..."

At first a few people responded thinking it wouldn't help, but more people than not thought it was a great idea, and would help. I know this would definitely help to give away a couple of hundred PS3's & Blu-ray titles on Oprah's show, and have 100's of thousands buy into it this Christmas!!!

My thoughts on this are that it's better if some Insider/BDA can get to her first before Toshiba/Microsoft do! (Think what it would do if HD-DVD players or an XBox360 with the HD-DVD add on is given away with HD-DVD titles instead...?)

Are there any insiders here that have the right connections with the BDA, studios,? to help make this happen? Her big holiday "Best of Oprah's Favorite Things" must-buy give-away shows are the highest rated shows she puts out, and Millions of people see what they get and then want it for the Christmas season. When iPod's were just new, she gave them out, and iPod sales that Christmas went through the roof. I'm sure her show helped those numbers. This is off her Favorite things Web site: "Oprah's Favorite Things show is the most watched Oprah show all year"

My thoughts are he is going to release a statement saying how his words were misintrepreted much like that of the VP of highdef from Warner when he said they were reevaluating their dual format stance.

Agreed, this doesn't really jive based on overall support and adoption rates on the Blu side. Maybe it’s the new strategy to throw them off, or their way of not running up the score. It will be interesting to watch the fallout of these statements.

Here’s to hoping that Sony as a company has a bit more confidence than this.

I really can’t comment (other than by generalizations) as I was not physically present to witness the line of questioning, the context in which the answers were provided, what words were emphasized or de-emphasized with changes in tone, volume or facial expressions. Was there was any editing of interim comments, etc.? In short, video is always better.

A person in his position can not be as candid as other executives or the repercussions can be quite immediate and extensive in the press.
For example, witness the past fall-out after the Viacom CEO’s thoughtless comments concerning Steven Spielberg.

It is always prudent for people at Sir Howard’s level not to make inflammatory statements.

If anyone reading this article questions the Blu-ray resolve, all they need to do is ask Ben or Josh here what was stated by executives (publicly or privately) from all the major Blu-ray studios at the recent Blu-ray festival. One of whom, is in the frontline trenches and reports on the status of the Blu-ray format directly to Sir Howard personally.

The significance of Oprah’s influence is not overlooked by people in Hollywood.

I would hope the CEO will publicly make a statment to clairfy his stance then. Having Sony basically saying they think HD is doing as good as Bluray (when clearly it's not) based off the Paramount shifting support is concerning.

Hopefully your sources are saying he will release another statment soon. Even my boss is actually reevaluating our stance with HD product. We sold off all HD product back in July based off real rental activity (we run 60+ Blockbuster Video stores). When people read comments like this it makes them think HD is just as viable as BR, which in my estimation is farthest from the truth. If people are already confused with this war it doesn't help when the head honcho stands up and says it's a stalemate (which infers a war with no end).

Man, that’s just……………….cold !
At least they could have included a link in their “official” notice to a comparable sympathetic forum like hddvd.com so that the membership could come down slowly.

You know, sort of like giving methadone to a morphine addict.

I find it very interesting that they timed that freeze with the release of Spiderman sales numbers, hmmm, I'm just saying
