I think it wouldn’t hurt if somebody with extra energy here did polls for Disney and Fox titles similarly to what was posted for the Sony Pictures library.

Can we add Dark Crystal to the '80s list? Though it's probably too late as many people have already cast their votes.
That's only distributed by Sony. Henson calls all the shots on it

It's just... it's a scorecard: one-nothing or something. But it doesn't mean as much as all that. PlayStation 3 will still go on playing games. It would have to have a different disk drive. And that's about it really."

So I'm sitting here with a PS3, 22 BR movies on the shelf (6 more on the way) and 12 PS3 games with plans to buy several more before Christmas. So the Sony Chairman has just told me no big deal if we lose the format war - we'll just swap the drive in the PS3. Great so now I have to buy a new PS3 with the new drive for any new PS3 games? Is Sony going to have a one up swap for all my BR based games discs I've already bought? Are you going to swap the disc drives on the new Sony Hi-Def camcorders that record straight to BR discs? If this interview still doesn't bother you - you are way too complacent. Nothing the HD-DVD side has come up with has given me any pause as to the choice I made, but I sure didn't expect the Sony Chairman to be the one to make me stop and rethink my investment.

Paid, I would hope there is stll some clarification coming. These comments make it sound if the format battle is lost then Sony is going to fold on BR entirely.
First advice I am going to offer is stop wringing your hands over this. I own 234 bluray titles, and am buying on the average 12 a month. I am not going to stop just because Sir Howard was taken out of context.

Take a moment to observe the state of things. Bluray has more manufacturers making players, more companies working on disc technology, a bunch of exclusive studio churning out some of the best looking and sounding product we have ever seen in home video. We are outselling the other side, and there are more and more PS3 being sold each week. Bluray is not going anywhere. The studio I work for is so confident bluray will win, that they are promoting the format better than they ever did with DVD.

HD DVD is not poised to win this. They are not putting out the best they can be product(their lossless audio support is abysmal), and they are promoting a gimmicky perspective with interactivity(I wouldn't buy anything while a movie is playing), they do not have the infrastructure to support the next gen format, and just how long do you think they are going to give away players?

Do not sit up fretting about this. The BDA seems to have their ducks in order, and they do not have to answer everything the HD DVD PG does. Don't worry, be happy, be blu.

They have or at least had a very strong following. I am talking about Gummi Bear series primarily, but then there were The Rescue Rangers and a few others. I realize they probably do not make a good HD material, but still should sell a lot, especially if Disney releases them with the remastered surround sound, and keeps all the original series including the pilot. What do you think?
I will forward this request to my friends in home video. Right now Disney is focusing on day and date releases with the DVD, and big hit titles that are sure to generate revenue. Kids titles will come to bluray, but I think it won't happen until the format matures a bit.

While you're at it, can you please ask them to get The Incredibles out on Bd next year? It seems this is a fan favorite Pixar movie, and after seeing Ratatouille and Cars, I hope I don't have to wait long for The Incredibles.

Thanks!!!

Sir Terrence -- thank you.

People here still pay too much attention to the HD DVD camp and their shenanigans. Hopefully your words, coupled with the recent reports of the PS3 sales (and tomorrow's Nielsen's numbers) will finally lay rest to the ridiculous uncertainty some members here have about Blu-ray's long-term viability -- uncertainty that's been gleaned only because they actually pay attention to the HD DVD supporters in other forums.

Sir Terrence,

Any word on Sin City? This is one of my favorite movies and Disney had a clip from it in one of the promo videos for Blu-ray.

If not, I'd like to officially send a plea to have it released.

From the context in your message I must assume you work for Disney. Many thanks to the mouse as Disney has been fantastic in their Blu support. The quality of the discs is great and the BOGOs don't hurt either. Seeing the number of POTC 1 & 2 that have sold during these 2 sales, I would expect the POTC 3 will have a huge first week as people (like myself) complete the trilogy.

As to the quote above I would like to point out the HD-DVD group has never come up with anything that bothers me. It was the head of Sony sounding a little less than committed that gave me pause. And this was from me reading the transcripts, not anyone else's interpretation.

But again many thanks to Disney and their efforts in showing the full potential of this format.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Sin City 2 is being released by Weinstein. Which until actions show otherwise is not a Blu-ray backer.

How would the Studio Ghibli titles fall into all this? I know they were never exactly huge sellers (okay, minor titles in the grand scheme of things), but I think something like Spirited Away might be popular with the average early adopter. Besides, it puts another Oscar-winner on Blu, if that counts for anything.

Okay, so we're probably getting close to the end of the early adopter phase, and I know I can provide a good deal of arguments why they shouldn't be released on Blu-ray now, but I thought I'd suggest the Ghibli titles anyway. I know I'd buy whatever's released.

My condolences go out to Kanye for his loss.

I won’t be taking a camera as I don’t want to look the “tourist” type.

P.S.
This may be of interest to you in particular. The word is (and I’m not certain of this) that the plastic surgeon that did this elective procedure never got prior medical clearance from an Internist before doing the surgery.

I figured there would be plenty of pro photogs there anyway

Thanks for the bit of medical info.

Yeah, Kanye's mother's story sounds like quite the tragic one. A highly elective surgery gone awry. If her surgeon knew (and he should if he did his job) of any significant prior medical problems that she had and didn't get preop medical/cardiac clearance; there will be a LOT of questions raised and I would be surprised if there is not a medmal lawsuit out of this. The anesthesiologist who put her to sleep could also be at fault here for not medically clearing her first.

To make things worse, Jan Adams, her apparent surgeon, is spouting off to TMZ.com and the media about what surgery she underwent and that the surgery was not to blame. First off, major league HIPAA violation. Second, the surgery WAS to blame. If she had a postoperative complication of any sort, be it as trivial as skin tears from the dressing or as catastrophic as pulmonary embolus or heart attack, the surgery/anesthesia was a direct contributor to the problem. Most surgeons consider any of these events occurring within a month of surgery to be a postop complication. He should just keep his mouth shut and let his lawyers handle it.

There's an old bit of surgical wisdom that says the best case that you ever do will occasionally be the one that you don't. This should probably hold even more true for entirely elective procedures like cosmetic plastics.

RIP Donda West.

Have a great time at the show-- don't forget to impress the girls with your blu-ray knowledge.

Cheers mate!

Is there any significance to Wedding Crashers being shown on the bluray commercials?

Thanks

Question

I don't know if any Insider's could answer this, but do you know of the Felix the Cat movie from the 80's. I can't find it on DVD, but it would be awesome on BD. Anybody remember the name? Thanks ahead of time.

Miyazaki's films will not be released until Tokuma is ready to do the push in Japan. Probably around the time his next film comes out we'll see something. Please remember the DVD is typically released a year after it comes out in theaters (they play for 9 months typically in Japan theatrically), so any titles would likely come out with that film's Blu-ray release, so we're talking 2009

Come on, guys... remember: this thread is for asking questions of the insiders. They donate their valuable time to answer your questions and they, as well as the rest of us, don't have the time to wade through page upon page of commentary and banter to get to the actual questions.

Thanks!
