I think the thing that disappoints me the most about this is that HD-DVD supporters have done a REALLY good job of spinning/FUDDING, but IT'S WORKING! And the Blu-Ray group seems to do nothing about it. They spread lie after lie after lie and NOBODY challenges it. It's like we just ignore them because we believe we already won. Why are there so many news reports that give HD-DVD so much credit? Is Toshiba/Microsoft paying them off? Why does HD-DVD get so much press and why does the press I read always seem to slant toward the HD-DVD side?

On the other hand, BD+ is something that creates (potentially) new work for every BD+ encoded title. Last edited by WickyWoo; 11-22-2007 at 01:03 AM. Reason: piracy |

Paidgeek - I just watched the Director's Cut version of Close Encounters of the Third Kind last night. I was utterly amazed! It was like watching a movie that just came out this year! The picture and sound quality was stellar, and those scenes with the mothership gave my subwoofer more of a workout than anything I think I have ever heard. Just wanted to pass along a big thank you and congrats to you and your crew for such an excellent job!!!

paid or others,
Someone commented that Harry Potter on BD is bigger (has more bytes) than the HDDVD version. There's speculation that this is either from higher bitrate encodes. There's also other speculation that it's just the PiP track. Does anyone know what is the reason why the BD version is so much bigger? |

Thanks for that scan - it has to be the video bitrate being upped then. Only the main audio track is LPCM, and with the extras being in 480i/p that means they won't take up all the extra space in question.

For one thing, blu-ray has more overhead, so automatically when you have the same audio/video encode, the BD is bigger by 1-2 gigs usually. Ontop of that, you have the PCM extra space, and i think the BD has like 10 language tracks on the disc that the HD doesnt, including exclusive extras. Trust me, the video is 100% IDENTICAL. If you were hoping it wasnt and thinking the space difference proves it, i have watched both and they are identical for hp5. I assure you of this. Warner isnt going to do BD specific encodes till it drops hd-dvd. |

Well then, in honor of Thanksgiving, let’s see if you or anyone else can just name the three movies that the following quotes come from………….. 1. “O.K. pilgrim.” ( Rob you really should know this without even thinking, just reiterating) 2. "What you got on the spit pilgrim? (AlaskaDon probably knows this one) 3. “Whoa, take her easy there, Pilgrim.” (I think the word “pilgrim” was used over 20 times in this film). Here's a gimmie.................. “Happy Thanksgiving Pilgrims” ![]() by Penton-Man blu-ray.com 11/22/07 P.S. NO GOOGLING ! Last edited by Penton-Man; 11-22-2007 at 11:02 PM. 10 extra language tracks at DD640 would be about equivalent to one and a half extra LPCM tracks, or 7GB if you will. Add that with some fudge factor to the main track difference, and you get 10GB. That would fit with Azkaban, but not OotP. Do you have a link to detailed comparison specs for the different discs in question available anywhere? Amazon is useless I've discovered as they just copy+paste.

Phoenix has some kind of extra documentary on it that isn't on the HD DVD
EDIT- A&E documentary: The Hidden Secrets of Harry Potter Probably 40min+ and if it's in HD would certainly explain that extra 10 GB The question is: Are those languages on the disc but not on the packaging? Since the title is region free it would make sense for Warner to dub all the Eurodubs on there... Last edited by WickyWoo; 11-22-2007 at 11:32 PM. |

I hope so, I have a lot of Fox movies I'm not watching yet in hopes for DTS-MA decoding or passthrough since I have a Onkyo 605. I liked the DTS core tracks well enough, but some movies I want to hear it in lossless only. I don't have time to rewatch films these days...
