Penton,
The A man over on that other forum just had this to say That was the purpose of my post . To the extent they all lose money on every DVD player they sell below $100 and yet they have not existed that market, motivation can exist elsewhere. For one, they can build dual format players. Toshiba doesn't make one of those. Neither does Sony or Microsoft. The matrial cost can't go up more than $10 to enable such a functionality over BD-only, assuming profile 2.0 capability on BD side... __________________ Why do you think we are seeing such an amount of dual format talk from the formally staunch allies in the red army? All I'll say is that..... whatever any studio does in the future with regards to format publishing, there is a good chance you will hear about it first, here on our forum rather than anywhere else. The last hint I gave about a studio flipping (Paramount) I foolishly posted on another forum.......won't happen again. |

I would also like to request mkv, divx, ac3, ogg, etc. support with subtitles on the PS3. It is a powerful computer, so there is no reason it shouldn't be able to do it, and you'd GREATLY increase it's potential to be a media center. Believe me there are many people in the world who love to have just a single box to watch movies, not to mention I'd rather watch HD DVD's as mkv files, instead of supporting that format. You can't do the same with BD+ movies. Contrary to rumors of it being cracked, you cannot burn it or make it into a mkv rip

And speaking about pitching in, do you think talkst8t has spent enough time in red purgatory with the red ants biting his toes, or should we make him suffer longer? Last edited by Penton-Man; 11-25-2007 at 01:31 AM. Reason: bolded it, so Keith doesn't miss it |

A month or so back there was an excellent link to a Panasonic Hollywood Labs (PHL) website with videos explaining the authoring process and advantage of Blu-Ray including peak bit-rates which, alas, I can no-longer find. Could someone point me the way again, please?

Finally got Close Encounters. Only watched the Director's Cut, but it looked great! Pretty good movie... never really watched the whole thing before (being younger I alwasy got bored out of my skull until the very end when the aliens start showing up).
My one question for Paid or anyone else... is the new packaging the beginning of a trend? I was more than a little disapointed there wasn't a standard Blu-ray case inside... I just hope this isn't the beginning of a trend towards the funky cases and display pieces that DVD has seen... fleshy covered Evil Dead 2 comes to mind, as does Battlestar Galactica (TOS)... Nice gimmicks but just that... gimmicks and stick out like a sore thumb in an organized case/display. |

Talking point after talking point by HD DVD zealots. 98% of the posts are by HD DVD supporters. Nothing he ever says will be good enough or accepted by any of them, so I really don't see why he bothers. AVS is a lost cause in terms of any hint of neutrality in those "Insider Threads". The fact that Amir still posts in them is indicative of that fact, as well as the "neutral" Mr. Vaughn. |
