I don't know anything about 2046. Gattaca is a great movie, but has significant film grain. When it is released, don't be surprised...

Sorry, but these are not our shows, so I don't know when they might be released on Blu-ray. It will likely depend on how the first TV shows do.

Basically it's a link to SPHE's site in Korea that details the movie's DVD features. So the questions then become, a) do you have any inside info as to when you are going to work on this title? and b) would you guys make a seperate video encoding than used by Universal?

fuad
This title is not on our current schedule and I don't know anything about it. Sorry... I'm an engineer, so I have to bug other people every time I want information about a split rights title or other schedule related question...

Tell the boys and girls at Sony Animation Studio and Sony Imageworks that they did a great job. Great stuff!

It won't be too long.. I'll pass on your positive comments.

The PS3 already supports 480p upconversion, though I have not tried it myself. Upconverting interlace to progressive can lead to poor results without complex filters, so I would not hold your breath on that one.

As I understand it, yes, a bug fix is in the works for the RGB issue.

Pansonic can make them. I believe Cinram can also make them now, though I don't know how many lines they have.

A European set-top model will be out shortly. That said, do you have anything against the PS3? It is probably the best HD player money can buy, any format, any price...

I believe they are talking pressed media as opposed to blank media (TDK).

The PS3 has significant noise from the cooling system (as do the Toshiba HDDVD players). I am waiting for a player that is silent. Can I expect the upcoming Sony player to be silent?

True, but on DVDs only, it seems-- not on SD content on BDs.

Yes, to clarify, I'm speaking about replicating BD50s, not making 50GB BD-R or BD-RW blank media.

While on the topic of BD-ROM, can any of the insiders comment on what the equipment costs to press BD discs? I'm assuming this is in the 6 figures at least but didn't know if it was more in the millions. It seems like there is more demand at the moment and was wondering why more companies weren't getting into this business.

I also hope that the PS3 is upgradeable to BD profile 1.1 via firmware, if/when it is confirmed I will be upgrading my Samsung for the PS3.
Sorry for the long delayed response.

"Rescue me" does support all regions. I don't know why the bug on the packaging is wrong, but I will point it out to the people who deal with that.

The PS3 is a highly programmable device as you know, and I have every reason to expect that Sony Computer will be able to support version 1.1 with an update in the future.

Regards,

The costs for building a facility to support either BD or HD-DVD run into the tens of millions.

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't mean a facility so much as the BD specific equipment. If a current replicator was looking to add a BD line, I was curious what the actual BD equipment was likely to cost.

If they already have the mastering equipment, it will probably cost $1M - 3M per line depending on who they purchase the equipment from.

paidgeek,

I know you hinted recently, but is there ANY other hints regarding BD+/Fox and when we may expect some sort of statement re: delays and/or annoucement of new titles (even if you aren't able to tell us when those titles might hit).

Thanks.
