I'll second that motion. I've noticed that on the last few titles I've purchased that the stickers have gotten really bad. The 3 security stickers as well as the rfid type stickers on the inside are hard to peel off in one piece and leave a residue behind.

I don't know if this falls under your realm or not but PLEASE pass this along to any studios or replicators you have contact with as this is a real nuisance. I now have several titles that are sticky and I have to be careful about stacking them on other titles.

Edit: While on the topic of disc issues, can you comment on the recent mandatory movie previews on the Pirates discs? I find this very annoying to have to fast forward through all those advertisements every time we want to watch or show the disc to someone.

You can chapter forward those previews.

It is still annoying that you can't jump to the menu tho.

Thank you for you asnwer on Gothika Paidgeek. The specs are all right, it has portuguese subs (I live in Brazil, so it's nice to have it), the only thing I could gether from the retailer site, and since I really enjoy the movie I'll be getting it as soon as possible.

I just received a couple of discs and 4 of them were Sony titles; well all 4 cases were destroyed during opening because of those stickers. I like to keep my things nice and clean and an ugly looking sticky case on a new movie is just a shame.
Since I'm not alone with my dislike I thought I bring it up. Warner for example only uses one sticker on the top.

Thanks for reading
I second HDJK's comments the glue from the side and bottom sticker completely destroyes the cover

Target goes BD Exclusive for hardware

Spiderman 1-3 to be announced.

Question Bd+

PaidGeek or any other insider,
In regards to the BD+ security features to be introduced
Blu-ray content protection agency certifies BD+
Will the PS3 require a firmware upgrade to play these new BD+ discs?
thanks

Default Trailers before movie

Paidgeek and Penton-Man re trailers etc:

In general I would like to see the following implementation: you put in the disc, press play, and the movie starts. period. Any trailers, FBI warning etc can be attached after the movie and accessed via the menu. Do you think that could be established as a norm on BD? Because for movie fanatics it would be a big bonus not to wade through all this junk before the movie. E.G. for me it would be the deciding factor for chosing the BD version of a say Paramount movie over the HDDVD version (in case I had both players of course). I can´t tell you how much I miss the laserdisc days in this one respect!

you won't see the FBI warning or stop pirating promo be moved anywhere else as they think it's a must for everyone to see this...

you can skip through the trailers usually...

Addressing the insiders,

What happened to the big announcement yesterday? Is the announcement delayed or has the HD DVD camp done some type of damage control to stop the ball from rolling?

Hmm, I can skip those. FBI Warning I usually don't bother with, but when it's FBI/Interpol I tend to. And I know I skip the promo of "You wouldn't steal a ..." that glorifies movie piracy quite often.

Question

For paidgeek and/or kjack, a question in multiple parts :

1. Are there any BD production lines currently capable of producing BD/DVD single-sided hybrid discs if a studio were to request such a thing, or would they require being completely rebuilt/retooled?

2. If such BDs were manufactured, could they be a BD25/DVD, BD50/DVD, or both?

3. Would all BD players available today, including all first-gen players, be capable of playing such discs, meaning read all layers - BD and DVD - or would they require a firmware update to do so, or would they just not be able to play them at all?

Thanks for any insight you all may be able to give me into these matters.

I'm curious to know that the first (Sony I presume) BD+ title is that is about to be released.

Will BD+ projected discs make any sort of note on the pagacking? Like Java, will it require firmware updates for certain players or had BD+ been designed from the start to "self install" from the disc entirely so no consumer needs to take any added steps at all (regardless of hardware)?

My understanding is not that Target will go exclusive, but rather that they will only promote Blu-ray set-top players with demonstration areas. They will also be running a number of Blu-ray releated promotions.

From what you've said it sounds like SPHE is doing a significant amount of re-mastering nowdays. Is Blu-ray sufficient to justify this, or is a DVD re-release a critical factor in the decision?

If an encoding of an existing master costs 100 units, how much is it for going beyond?

Gary
Mastering / transfers in HD are quite expensive by the time we complete the master and it does not presently make economic sense to do this strictly for the Blu-ray sales we make today. We do it because these masters will be used to service all markets and products such as DVD, Cable, Satellite, TV and so on.
