Keith: When can we expect to see the first 1.1 profile players to hit the market? Will the new Samsungs have the new profiles?

A question to Penton-Man and anyone willing to talk about Studio politics:
The Variety story on Universal raises some interesting points. I have the feeling that the hidden message is something like: "Uni, you're the sweetest gal in the planet, and with your help we can put the format war behind us and start making serious money. Name your price and let's sit down and talk". So I'm wondering what kind of concessions the BDA is willing to make to get Uni on board. ![]() What kind of arguments Uni would find "seductive enough" to become format neutral? |

Keith the reference board you took to SINOCES, was that 1.1 compliant? there is a little FUD about that the profile 1.1 hardware wont be available when the BDA grace period ends, can you confirm if sammy are using it in either of the new players due(the 2400)

Blu-ray movies (and PS3 games) make great birthday presents, Christmas presents, etc. as you can actually wrap them up with some sort of gift wrap ----something you won’t be able to do if digital downloads of movies at inferior bit rates comes to fruition. ![]() Uni will eventually come around when they can’t ignore the revenue gained from publishing in Blu-ray, as it becomes more profitable over time. Believe me, all these studios pinch pennies on everything. Last edited by Penton-Man; 07-17-2007 at 04:44 PM. |

Any type of title can be hard to encode. B&W should be easier, but if it is very grainy, or has many cuts, fades, dissolves, it will be a bear. Animation can be very tough as today's titles have gradients that aggrevate contouring artifacts. As a rule, the cleaner the master is, the easier it is to get a very good picture without having to use extraordinary bit rates. |

I have seen a lot of masters including the titles you mentioned. Taxi Driver is being planned for a release later this year, but be aware that it is grainy and that is exactly how the director wants it. I will let you know when a title is coming down the line that is particularly good, but I can't do justice in describing every release before it comes out. |

Does any insider have some insights regarding Denonlink? Denon itself is being really quiet about the technical ground it stands on. Will there be a difference in using HDMI for 5.1 PCM as oppose to DL (mainly I'm asking if jitter problems are handled differently/better). I'm running analog cables from my DVD to the reciever (for music listening), because I just think it sounds slightly better (no jitter). I'm just wondering if Denonlink would be any good, in theory. I will get a Cat5 soon to test it, but I was just curious about the tech aspect of it.
Thanks for any info. |
