Did you mean $100 - $120 per year? I interpreted it as $100 - $120 per month. I apologize for the mistake but this all could have been avoided if you corrected me the first time I said that you paid $100 - $120 per month.
I would be curious for him to give more info since that does not sound quite right. We know he is watching Netflix right now and if he is in the US an has the smallest package that is $9 a month or $108 a year. The only things I can think of is
1) it is annual but he is not including all costs but only what he pays (e.g. if he is splitting the 18$ package with 4 friends he is paying $4.50 and the other three the remaining $13.50 so now there is room for more than one service at $120/y)
2) it was monthly but "subscribe to" did not only include streaming. (it includes cable sat...)
3)the period could be quarterly.

We have been traveling looking at fall color here in the US on the Blue Ridge Parkway's entire length. No movies and we survived just fine but we had several bottles of water and some food during that time.
I get what you are saying, capacitors, inductors, resistors, transistors, IC's, audio, video, etc. is a way of life for me and I am glad that I lived in a time when it all was available. But I do try to keep it in perspective.
I just think it is when one member tries to tell another what he or she should spend or not spend be it necessity or luxury. I am waiting to see the test results on a $25,000 projector. If really positive I may procure said projector and I sure will not apologize for it but I would never consider it a necessity. I have posted how we came to this finical position before so will not bore anyone again.

I watched Dune 2021 last night and I will definitely be buying the disc when it comes out. While I had a great time with the movie itself, my HBO Max presentation was very frustrating. The movie kept dropping back and forth from 4K to HD throughout the runtime, so that was super annoying. My internet connection tested fine, so I can only guess that HBO Max's servers could not meet the demand placed upon them. Just another reason why streaming will never replace discs in my home; it's too unreliable.
The disc release is probably listing two aspect ratios due to the IMAX scenes.

However, it has a long way to go before recouping its $165 million budget and additional marketing spend.
In addition to North America, another new player this weekend was China, where the movie, distributed there by Legendary and partner Wanda, opened to a so-so $21.6 million (a new surge in COVID cases is prompting lockdowns in 8 or 9 provinces, including parts of Beijing).
Dune was a high-profile player in the fall film festival circuit, with Villeneuve and the marketing campaign urging consumers to see the big-budget tentpole on the big screen. It worked: the movie did huge business in particular on Imax screens, which turned in a hefty 22.5 percent of the gross, or $9 million. All told, Imax and other large format screens accounted for 50 percent of the opening weekend tally,
Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi classic features an all-star cast that also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa and Zendaya.
Dune sits at 83 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore.
There were other challenges aside from the HBO Max factor. Younger moviegoers are so far driving the box office recovery, yet they aren’t the demo who grew up on the Dune books. Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel was originally published in 1965. The majority of ticket buyers over opening weekend were between the ages of 18 and 35. It also skewed heavily male, or 61 percent.
Dune‘s lengthy running time of 155 minutes also reduced the number of showtimes in cinemas. (The recent James Bond film No Time to Die is longer, at 163 minutes.)

Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage crossed the $350 million milestone globally with a domestic tally of $181.8 million and $170.6 million overseas.

Leatherface? The one with Viggo in it? If so, I love that one. I have the BD unrated director's cut of that from Warner Archive. I have not seen any of the others.
I'm glad to have been able to see Dune 2021 at home even if it was a poor financial decision by Warner Bros. I live in a rural area and probably a 1000 miles or more from one of HBO Max's three servers. You are in a densely populated area and you are probably just a few feet from one of their three servers.

I am a big Villeneuve fan. He is one of the other directors in my top 3. I would add Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and Jake G to his best. Arrival was good, but falls a step below in my mind.

Prisoners is an excellent movie. I am very fond of Incendies, also. Denis Villeneuve makes consistently great movies (unlike M. Night Shambalamba).
