I can come up with a ballpark figure if you really want to know. It would be based on the number of files that I have and the storage space used.

I kept an envelope full of receipts when I was building my home theater but it got rather large so I discontinued the idea.

Technically it was correct, I have all the John Wick Movies in my Collection. What is a Backup a copy of that Movie, so I used it as an example storing Movies on the DVR Server for later playback. I know many people have Local Servers on their Networks, but not many have ISP Remote Servers. The Studios have to come up with a solution for people that want to Collect. This could be a good choice, but I know they have to get the rights to store and show your Movie Collection!

Good ahead and estimate away. Scare me if you can! Remember that I only use SSDs, too.

It's good to see you active across several threads, too.
If you’re watching it unaware of how it looks on film, I suppose it’s less jarring, but there are a LOT of instances where the AI conspicuously gives itself away.

Clothing textures changing (even sometimes multiple textures on the same garment in one shot), eyes looking far too sharp/pronounced, and skin marks/textures appearing/disappearing before your eyes.

The big issue is these are less “4K transfers” or even “transfers” and more akin to AI-recreations. They (not always but fairly often) have an uncanny CG look. They look like extremely GOOD CG, but they still don’t look quite… real. At a couple of points I felt nostalgic for the game, Alien: Isolation.

And good to see you active as well!

Cloud DVR's have been available for quite sometime now, several have come and gone because of legal issues. DVR's target use is live TV, some of the best known: HULU with live TV, DirecTV, YouTube TV, Sling. Most of these have limited storage, limited duration after recording, etc.

I seriously doubt that poster can prove he watched John Wick via DVR with the source being VUDU, MA or any of the other digital lockers. I suppose it could be done if fuboTV or Philo had John Wick.

OK soon. Apparently 20 and 22TB HDD are becoming fairly common.

If prefer SSD you could go the Nimbus route where a 64TB SSD only cost a measly $16,000.

I see you as more of a spinning disc guy.

anyway digital back up at the quality of vod services it would be around 150 to 500 since 20 tb hard drives really aren't that expensive these days. I'm not sure what the ssd hard drive would be because it would be rather dumb choice for this type of file as a storage medium.

The hard drive cost is basically a rounding error compared to the other costs of digital back ups. like making a back up for your collection would take like 3 or 4 years of computer running time lolz.

no

because
1) anyone could have PVRed it if they bought a digital copy or not as long as they had that cable subscription since it is a feature of your cable subscription
2) you can't just back up to the cable ISP any content you bought.
3) that PVRed copy on their server does not belong to you and other cable subscribers that PVRed it can see that copy just as easily
4) that PVred copy will be removed in a few weeks because the cable co can only keep it there for that long.

It is completely different from having your own dedicated server for your own local copies at the ISP of films you bought, which was what you said.

ISO files are full rips of disc, MKV files are movie only rips. The layout: Format ● number of files, amount of disc space used, last number is space used ÷ number of files for an average in GB of each title.

  1. Blu-ray ISO ● 564, 18.4TB, 32.624GB
  2. Blu-ray MKV ● 57, 1.28TB, 22.456GB
  3. UHD Blu-ray ISO ● 99, 6.84TB, 69.090GB
  4. UHD Blu-ray MKV ● 31, 1.83TB, 59.032GB

I would assume with your collection size you watch a fair number of your titles just once or twice. Would not make much sense to me to rip those titles. There are some media player users say they have multi thousands of titles on their NAS drives with several hundred TB’s of storage space.

For Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray TV I have some ripped and some I just play the disc. At some point I will rip all the Games of Throne disc simply because the Zidoo’s handle DV content better than all my other devices (streamers, media and disc players).

Did you just call me dumb?

Optical disc spinning guy would be more accurate.

I very much dislike conventional hard drives and their short lifespans, including the nuisance of periodically running "disk defragmenter", so color me dumb for my insistence upon SSDs. Money is no object; I have none, so it really is no object. A fact that I very much object to.

Seeing as all of this is just a fantasy project anyway, I would also insist upon 1:1 backups. I have no desire to spend 3 to 4 years of computer time just to wind up with Vudu quality. 1:1 copies would certainly extend that time frame a wee bit, so I would need some underpaid and underappreciated interns (minions) to do all of this work for me. They can work around the clock, too, as I am pressed for time. No overtime pay, tho. Not a chance. Add mistreated to their job description.

You're absolutely right; I would never say such a thing. 1:1 backups is the only way to do it. Vudu rhymes with doodoo and that's not by accident, either.

ISO, UFO, I want it all! Every last bit and byte's worth. Of course I want every. single. disc. to be ripped! Every title in my collection is a masterpiece worthy of preservation in the Library of Congress and even the Halls of Montezuma.

Now tell me how much storage space I need, how many SSDs of what size, how many minions to do the work, the cost all said and done, and do I qualify for zero down and same as cash financing?

Valentine's Day is coming up, maybe your wife will get it for you? If she does, you better be ready with something nicer than a box of chocolates.

Out of tangent, but not quite, not everything is available on streaming. I have a collection of at least 1,500 CDs are not available on any audio streaming platform. These are special mixes of literally (at least) 10,000+ song that even if I want to buy it, none of the purchase services and streaming services have them

That is rather disappointing.

I wrote to Shout about Donnie Darko not playing correctly and they said you have to send these things with a list including pictures of the disc and packaging and a reciept. So I did but they said they can't open what I sent so I sent it using a Intel Windows PC hoping that would help. They said everything was fine and they would send a replacement.

About 4 weeks later I asked if they had any tracking and they said they determined it wasn't the LE and cancelled the ticket. Would have been nice I think to give me a heads up. I bought another copy of the disc and it's fine.

Recently I tried to redeem my Blue Beetle digital code at MA but MA said the code had already been redeemed. So I contacted MA and they said that I would have to contact Warner Bros. which I have not done yet. This was purchased as a new UHD Blu-ray title from Amazon and the packaging was sealed with a new appearance.

I had to return my copy of Blue Beetle. Locked up during playback and the replacement was fine.

I may have a working code for you.

No Santa wasn't kind to me, and I so want that Sony 75" with MiniLED. Valentine's Day, I think I'll have to wait. We have a Princess up the California Coast Cruise, then a Boston College Graduation. I like those Cruises, we go with a small group of people from our Community and they like to Party. We have a favorite Bar on the Ship called Crooners that we visit at the end of the day...Cheers!
