It seems Samsung has stopped making 3D Blu-ray players, however both Sony 4K players support 3D and I believe the LG 4K players also support 3D. For how long is anybodies guess.

And on the DoVi/HDR10+ front, I am hearing that the goal is now to have them both within a single encode. I'm sure Dolby is thrilled

I bet they are. They need the encoding of DV on disc to get trickier like they need a hole in the head.

Panasonic's did, not sure about their new players they just announced.

they cant even get each 1 onto a disc correctly in the 1st place. now theyre gonna try smashing 2 on there

Only for Warner Brothers though, right?

So it shouldn't be that bad for Dolby. Warner hasn't released many Dolby Vision UHDs anyways. Studios like Universal, Paramount, Lionsgate, etc., are releasing a ton of Dolby Vision content on UHD Blu-Ray, and they only support Dolby Vision.

Thanks. It's still not dissuading me as to my sticking point with Dan though, again it clearly notates that the grading is to be carried out first and then the downconversion metadata is derived from that source. Sure, people can adjust their source grade during the latter step if they so wish but to do so for anything but a brief touch-up would become such an attritional process (grade the movie, do the DV analysis, regrade the movie, redo the DV analysis, regrade the movie etc etc) that it would provide hellishly fresh meaning to the words "moving target".

the left photo is noticeably brighter, slightly more poppy. the right picture looks like the color was turned down a few notches.

Fair enough. I mentioned Warner only because they're the only studio who has currently announced support for both formats, so their titles are the only ones that should be affected for now.
