Just like to point out at this point, you've inadvertently been making the argument for a number of posts now why Apple, as I've said, might end up as the dominate platform for film's.

And I never said that they don't have a shot at one day becoming said force, it's your crackpot theories about them actively undermining physical media that don't stack up. The entire movie disc industry is worth $13B a year and is only declining, while Apple's revenues were $260B in 2019. What's there to undermine? As with Disnee, Apple are going to do their own thing and they don't give a hoot about whatever else happens around them.

Like they never tried to do the same with music? You don't remember Apple trying to undermine Spotify?

I agree all Apple have to theoretically do is exist. But a world where Apple has the only viable service for watching film's? Hard pass from me.

That's because Spotify was/is a threat you banana! Physical media is not, it's already a footnote in how the world consumes motion picture content and we're the only loonies left who care about it.

Here's a crazy idea though, why don't we worry about the Apple future or Disnee future or whatever future I'm supposed to be worried about when it actually gets here and the final disc rolls out of the replication plant? I hate [legally paying for] streaming, but if/when it's the only way to actually watch new content then I'll have to suck it up and join in.

I can see we won't be breaking your link dependence anytime soon. I'm beginning to think you get a little spiff from posting these cryptic links. So instead of going link cold turkey, lets go a different route. Lets practice our link posting etiquette. Just follow the proper guidelines and you'll be enjoying well written and informative posts in the actual post itself.

Example 1 (proper form)
Tom Tuttle from Tacoma, WA is using the triple lindy method of grading HDR and is getting good results. You can read more about it here; informativelink.com (This is a well thought out and concise post. We know what we're clinking on and we can make the informed decision before clicking if we want to or not)

Example 2 (bad form)
Tommy T is doing this; crypticlink.com (This is not acceptable posting behavior)

Feel free to screenshot this and reference it for future link postings. We can get you thru this, my spunky Padawan. Now take a short break. I heard GD is bringing his homemade haggis over for you and the Mrs. Bon appetit.

I'm a grapefruit sir!

You are viewing this in black and white terms. Yes physical media is obviously not commercial competition. But the fact it remains the choice of enthusiasts is a problem for Apple who, as i believe, want to be dominant digital service for film's.

You really underestimate how integral us loonies are.

So us nutty enthusiasts have all this supposed clout, but I thought Netflix were doomed because they don't produce blockbuster mainstream fayre and only stuff that appeals to the hardest of core? Hmmmm. We're both able to hole each other's arguments below the waterline so I'm happy to leave it there instead of derailing this thread any further

I know of Tom Poole (who colored - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...y#post16594273) and Tom Reiser, neither out of Tacoma, but who the heck is Tom Tuttle?
P.S.
Tonight I hope you’re watching what I’m watching.

Thanks for the link, Volpatto absolutely roasts Vincent Teoh (albeit unnamed) there at the end

Fascinating to hear his process though, that he doesn't like doing a scene by scene transform when doing HDR trim passes, or even when doing a simpler transform from one space to another. He'd rather do a 'one light' pass that maintains the integrity of what was originally shot on a global level, presuming that the content has been shot to have a unified 'look' (as most productions would do).

Yeah. As soon as I see “fake HDR” on his channel, the forst thing that popped in my mind was “Oh gawd, clickbait and misinformation”.

And it's not like the actual analysis itself doesn't have merit on a purely scientific level because it genuinely does, it's all the bullshit supposition and reductive clickbait it comes wrapped in that I can't stand. What I still don't get is how level-headed (and hilariously self-deprecating) Vincent was and is when it comes to virtually any other aspect of his reviewing prowess, but his passion for the technology and desire for clicks has overriden the core tenet of a professional TV calibrator, to respect the intent of the creator. We don't have to like the intent, no-one said we did, but it's enough that we respect that it's their decision to make, not ours (which is of coursh Walter Volpatto's point at the end of that podcast) and that the work is the work, no matter what the marketing says.

Hang on, the year has just started.
I bet we'll see many records this year...in the number of views (HDR Discussion Thread).
