United Kingdom XTRO coming from Second Sight

Second Sight updated their Facebook cover photo with the following image.

21034595_1035084783292621_2537892449304807306_n.jpg

I wonder if they have licensed the existing HD transfer done by DigiDreams Studios in Germany.

Roger Ebert seems to disagree:

"Xtro" is the work of incompetent cynics.

That's quite a review I just read

When ever I read stuff like that from critics, that means that I'll love the movie.

Well, that's Roger Ebert's opinion and he's welcome to it. XTRO is not a film for everyone, but I think it's how you approach it. If you want to see a straight forward horror / sci-fi, this is not the film for you. But, if a giant Action Man stabbing Lou Beale to death through a comfy chair appeals, you'll love it!

The weird thing about this movie is that in all of the survey/VHS review companion books I read over the years, even all the genre ones, NONE of them had anything remotely positive to say about this movie, nor did they even hint at the weirdness contained within apart from always mentioning the "birth" scene. It's not just Roger Ebert that missed the boat! It seems to have been rediscovered over the last several years. That redlettermedia thing definitely helped with nerd awareness here in the US.

It's exciting IF they're working from scratch and doing a new scan. If they're "borrowing" it from Krekel then it'll be a disaster

Please let this be an un-Krekel'd master! This was a childhood favorite that I've been pining for a proper BD edition of for many moons.

Did I read on these forums that the dude in charge of this HD release is an unabashed grain hating, lover of DNR and EE?

I know it was somewhere.

If they've licensed Xtro from New Line maybe they'll also get 1982's Alone In the Dark

Wait a sec, wasn't Electric Dreams also a Warner title in the UK?

The UK cinema poster said it was a "A Virgin Film release in association with 20th Century Fox through UK Film Distributors Ltd."

The VHS tape was issued by Virgin Video.

Actually it was released by Spectrum (PolyGram under another name). I still have my pre-cert vhs of this film. The VHS is worth keeping onto as it's an open-matte presentation, and you get the advantage of seeeing rather a lot more of Maryam D'Arbo in it.

Has there been any info anywhere as to whether Second Sight are going to include an option to watch it with either ending? I'd really like an option to have the theatrical ending as well as the 'video ending' which I've had for years, but don;t really care for all the other fluff like the CGI nonsense version.

Just received a message from Second Sight, they have yet to finalize specs and extras for Xtro but said to just keep an eye out on their fb page, as it will be announced first there.

Need. I'm up for anything nasty-related. (Yes, I'm aware that this was never officially declared a video nasty, despite this and Shogun Assassin commonly being lumped in with the 72 titles).

The first Xtro is a legitimately great piece of surrealist sci-fi cinema.
