Mine would have to be 1994
So many awesome releases that year including
Shawshank Redemption
Forrest Gump
Lion King
Pulp Fiction
Dumb and Dumber
Leon the Professional
Speed
Natural Born Killers
The Mask
True Lies
The Crow
Clerks
Ed Wood
Ace Ventura
Just to name a few, what's your best year in film?

1982 was pretty astonishing, not only because it produced The Holy Masterpiece (a.k.a. Blade Runner) but it also produced these other gems:

Basket Case
Conan the Barbarian
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Halloween III: Season of the Witch
First Blood
Poltergeist
Possession
The Road Warrior
Tenebrae
Tron
The Thing
White Dog

1994 was a decent year for films, too, but an even better year because it produced me.

  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall
  • Step Brothers
  • The Wrestler
  • Cloverfield

  • Tropic Thunder
  • Role Models
  • Wanted
  • Pineapple Express
  • Zack and Miri Make a Porno
  • Yes Man

  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • Milk
  • Frost/Nixon
  • Wall-E
  • Kung Fu Panda
  • Taken
  • Gran Torino
  • In Bruges
  • Let the Right One In

The last ten movies on my list i don't necessarily love myself, but most others do (some i do like, a few i haven't seen & some i think are just okay), but i also wanted to try to argue this is not only my favorite year but is the best year, any ways here are a few reasons why it is my favorite year at least. Comedy is my favorite genre, followed probably by comic book movies and this year had a abundance of both and arguably kick started the current comic book movie movement, having started the Marvel Cinematic Universe and having IMO the best comic book movie (as well as my favorite movie) in The Dark Knight. Will Farrell and Seth Rogen are probably my two favorite comedic actors and they both had two really good comedies this year IMO;
[Show spoiler]Step Brothers, Semi-Pro (i really like this movie, but know most don't which is why i left off my list), Pineapple Express & Zack & Miri
. Then being a wrestling fan i loved The Wrestler, i really like monster movies and i think Cloverfield was a great one, i'm a fan of Jason Segel and Forgetting Sarah Marshall is definitely in my top 20 movies of all time, it had IMO Jim Carrey (who along with Adam Sandler's comedies i grew up with and loved) last good comedy in Yes Man & Wanted was just a kick-ass movie. A couple others that i liked, but probably not note worthy to most, are Hancock & The Wackness.

Can't really just single out 1 year in particular, but there are several years that stand out as something truly transcendent (especially in the 70's)

1974,
1975,
1979,
1982,
1995,
1999(one of the greatest ever),
2007,
and 2014 is going to go down with many of those.

Default One of my all-time favorite years for cinema would have to be...

...1994

And here's 10 reasons why ...ten films which all continue to hold a special place in my film collection...

Several other years stand out as well, but there's just something about the "Pulp Fiction"/"Shawshank Redemption" combo ...now ...if only one of them had actually won the Academy Award for best motion picture...
